Before there were Panthers, the Carolinas were largely Redskins country.

And now for a few nights it August, it will be again.

Charlotte television station WSOC announced it will carry three Redskins preseason games this August.

The station will air Redskins games against the Titans on Aug. 8 and the Bills on Aug. 24 live. They’ll show the Aug. 29 game against the Buccaneers on a one-day tape delay. Panthers preseason games are on another station.

The only conflict with the Panthers preseason schedule is the Aug. 29 game, which explains pushing it back.

Airing another team’s games in an NFL market is uncommon, but makes sense for the local station, because anything football will probably draw better ratings than whatever else they can air in that slot on a summer Saturday night.

WSOC is an ABC affiliate, which means they don’t have access to a regular diet of football. And for Redskins fans there, it represents a rare chance to see their old team without Sunday Ticket.
