Redskins to stick with two-man radio booth, for now

The “retirement” of Hall of Famer Sam Huff from Redskins radio broadcast has created surprisingly intense interest in whether he was pushed — and how he’ll be replaced.

According to Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post, the Redskins plan to stick with a two-man booth, for now.

Larry Michael will continue to handle the play-by-play duties, and Sonny Jurgensen (pictured) will provide color commentary.  Also, sideline reporter Rick “Doc” Walker will have a Pierre McGuire-style perpetually open microphone.

A third person could be added to the booth in the future.  One possibility is tight end Chris Cooley.

“As far as I know, Chris is not retired,” Chuck Sapienza, V.P. of programming for Red Zebra Broadcasting, told Steinberg. “But when and if he does, we would love to talk to Chris, just like we talk to all former Redskins about their plans after their playing days.”

Joe Theismann recently has said he’d be interested in the job.  While it appears that neither he nor anyone else will get the gig in 2013, the carrot has been dangled for him and all former Redskins players.

Interested parties should be sure to publicly declare that the team’s name isn’t offensive.

Sonny can take off his helmet and shoulder pads in the booth now that Huff is gone.

Joe Theismann would be a great addition, but can he make it through an entire quarter without a piss break?

I listened to a Redskins broadcast on Sirius and it sounded like Jurgensen (if that is who it was) was falling down drunk. It was like the Uecker broadcasts from “Major League”

The “R” word is like nails on a chalkboard, they should change it like everybody wants them to.

All you Colts fans should really grow up. HTTR!!

I know a ton of Skins fans but everybody seems to vehemently dislike Larry. He needs to go. Everybody loves Sonny, but like Sam, he is getting pretty old. Both of them would sometimes forget exactly what was going on (I remember one of them actually forgot what team we were playing recently). A new team with Cooley and Theismann would be a breath of fresh air. My preference would be Doc Walker and Cooley and anybody else who could do play by play who isn’t Larry Michael.

What’s funny is anyone of you making fun of Joe Theismann for his commercials is a total hypocrite. You mean to tell me you wouldn’t take the money, please. And no, I’m not talking to the majority of you underage posters. Keep hating the NFC East Champs cuz we’re gonna put it on you this year!

In regards to theisman getting the job… Umm, NO!

The only reason Larry Michael has a job is because Danny couldn’t stand former announcer Frank Herzog’s criticism of the team. Larry kisses up and now has a job for life. He’s horrible!

The mere mention of “Red Zebra Broadcasting”
    offends me…

Being from Va I have to listen to these hacks on the radio sometimes. Some of the worst, most biased nonsense in the world comes from a Redskins radio broadcast. Worst 2 man team I’ve ever heard.

How about having Frank Herzog, Sonny Jurgensen and Doc Walker in the booth?

  16. boyshole25 says: Jun 25, 2013 7:09 PM

Totally biased. I’d love to hear Cooley and Darrell green with southeast Jerome doing sideline

Why do some post get deleted?

I’m all for Chris Cooley joiningthe the Redskins broadcast, but he needs tov vpay pay his dues. Doc Walker or Brian Mitchell should join Sonny and Larry.

I would love to hear BMitch tell Larry he doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Sonny’s a great guy, but he’s getting a little senile to broadcast live. Cooley would be a great addition to the broadcast team.
