Teammate sees some Roethlisberger in Locker

Nate Washington AP

The Titans’ fortunes this year, and the futures of many who work for them, hinge on the progress of quarterback Jake Locker.

And at least one of his wideouts sees enough progress from Locker to compare him to one of the league’s best.

Veteran wideout Nate Washington said he sees similarities between Locker and Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, whom he played with at a similar stage in his career.

“I was there in Ben’s second year, and right away you kind of understood that even in his second year, he was gonna be a good quarterback, a guy that could make plays. That’s the same thing with Jake,” Washington said, via Terry McCormick of TitanInsider. “He’s a guy who can make plays. I tell everybody all the time, this is football, and it’s a gladiator sport, but it’s not a dumb man’s sport.

“There are a lot of things out there that you have to learn. You’re not just gonna go out there and run faster than everybody else or be the strongest man on the field and win. You’ve got to think with your head a lot, and especially at his position, he’s gonna touch the ball every single play. He has a lot to worry about and a lot on his shoulders, but he’s grown with his thoughts and he’s grown with his mentality toward the game and understanding a lot, and we just have to make sure we do what we can to help him out.”

They’ve tweaked the offense to suit him. They’ve spent heavily to give him weapons.

And now it’s on him to live up to the expectations, even if playing at a Roethlisberger level might be an unfair one.

    Hide the women.

You mean Locker likes to ply young, naive girls with alcohol, then force himself upon them, against their will, in nasty bar bathrooms?

The title of this article made me think he saw Roethlisberger in his locker. I was like “what?”

I’m more concerned about the drunk girls that have some Rothlesberger in them.

Both of their names end in “er”. Beyond that…….

JEEZ, there’s a title that ANY mother, or woman in Jake’s life would be SICKENED to read!

Ben was 14-0 his rookie season and won the Super Bowl in his second. Good luck with that!

Well passer wise it isn’t a great comparison even though I love Locker and do not like BR. BR is a better passer than he gets credit for, while Locker has mechanical issues that hurt his accuracy. One thing Locker is that BR may not even be to this day is beloved by his teammates. That kid is a natural leader of men. I root for him to make it.

Big Ben is not one of the leagues best. He makes big plays and helps his team win big games and that’s all that matters, but from a pure QB standpoint id take 10 other qbs before him.

    That’s why you’re not a GM.

I mean, that is just a dumb comment. If you want to make the case that he has the injury bug, OK that’s fine. But saying that Ben is only your 11th best QB is just stupid.

Here are 5 QBs arguably better than #7

Rodgers, P. Manning, Brady, Brees, E. Manning

    Here are 4 bubble guys

    RGIII, Luck, Flacco, Ryan

So you think there is one guy better now….who, Romo, Cam Newton?!? So you’re basically saying you want the two unproven rookies, Ryan who consistently chokes in the big game, or Romo or Newton who I don’t even want to get into, over Ben Roethlisberger?

You’re aware that the guy has two rings, 3 Superbowls, 4 AFC championships, solid stats, and a W-L record that is second to none, right?

I wonder if Ben trapped Locker in a bathroom like that other chick?

Also, Big Bens win-loss record, I’m almost positive is ‘2nd to many’, not none.

    Oh man. Cmon!

    No means no Ben!

I wonder if his lawyers can prove Locker is crazy too. Well, he does play for the Titans…

Did Big Ben rape Jake Locker too?!!

Lat year the Steelers finished 22nd in scoring offense the Titans 23rd. Dare to dream.

  18. jtylert says: Jun 25, 2013 4:09 PM

They must have huge lockers if Big Ben can fit inside one.

  19. jtylert says: Jun 25, 2013 4:10 PM

Nevermind, it’s just parts of him in the locker. That makes sense.

That’s all well and good if the rest of the team is ready to produce a SuperBowl!!

I put Ben right up there with Trent Dilfer & Brad Johnson, game managers who can win it all as long as the rest of the team is awesome, especially the defense!!

This is evidenced by Ben’s 3 SuperBowl Appearances, with ZERO MVP awards!! It takes a pretty lame QB to not win the SuperBowl MVP award if your team wins the game! A Game MANAGER !!

Some people try to hide the fact they know nothing about football who post here, but you removed all doubt very quickly with that post! Ben may not be the best QB to have played in a SB , but you are over looking three appearances….hardly a manager of a game gets there THREE times…we get it you don’t like Ben

Some quality posts in this thread.

Ben has 2 rings and never had a losing season. Brady is the only other active QB that can say that. He just wins. Make all the jokes about the off field crap but on the field there are not many better and his playoff record is at elite status. Good luck Locker. At least your division is not near as strong as Ben’s.

    steeley McBean:
The Steelers were 13-1 with Roethlisberger at starting quarterback in 2004. He threw a whopping 17 TD passes in 13 regular-season starts. He also stunk in both playoff games that season, in a win against the Jets and a decisive loss against the Patriots.
in 2005, the Steelers won a Super Bowl INSPITE of Roethlisberger. But let’s not allow facts to stand in the way of a good myth…
    Nate Washington is an idiot.
