Cops impound SUV that may connect Hernandez to 2012 killings

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is loaded into a Bristol County Sherriff's van after being arraigned in the Attleborough District Court Reuters

Aaron Hernandez is currently in jail, and won’t be getting out any time soon if ever, because he’s a suspect in the murder of Odin Lloyd. He may soon face legal trouble in the deaths of two other people in 2012 — and police have recovered what they believe is a key piece of evidence that could tie Hernandez to that case.

According to CNN, the Boston Police Department has located and impounded a silver SUV with Rhode Island registration that police have been trying to find for almost a year in connection with the shooting deaths of two people in 2012. Investigators believe that Hernandez was renting the SUV at the time of those killings.

On July 16, 2012, police found three shooting victims on a Boston street corner. Two of those victims died. Only today was it publicly reported that police believe Hernandez may have been involved in that shooting.

Police reportedly suspect that Hernandez may have killed Lloyd to keep Lloyd from saying anything about that shooting.

  24. shlort says: Jun 27, 2013 3:44 PM

Someone is talking to the police against Hernandez. All the sudden they find this SUV? Someone tipped them off to it and told them right where Hernandez rented it from. I bet Hernandez rented it under his own name and was in possesion of the vehicle on the date of the murders last july. I bet that the person who gave the information is an eyewitness to those 2 murders and the Lloyd murder.

  25. bennyb82 says: Jun 27, 2013 3:45 PM

I keep thinking about when Aaron was quoted saying that he needed to change and be a better man for his daughter`s sake, etc. What we do not know is the scary part…the sloppiness with which this latest incident was done may have resulted from years of him realizing there was no need for being discreet, because nothing bad ever came of his actions.

The cops might solve a whole string of murders if they just track Hernandez’s credit records for vehicle rentals.

“Look man, if we rent this car they’ll never know it was us”

Rental agent, “Mr Hernandez, if you’ll just provide a driver license, proof of insurance and a credit card…”

I’ve thought this for a while. I know Bellichick gets tons of credit for finding hidden draft gems and turning around careers, but he’s always taken chances on guys with questionable character. The Bengals have gotten that rap in the past, but I’ve always wondered how the Pats got away with bringing in guys like Corey Dillon (former crack dealer), Randy Moss (three colleges in three years because of drug use), Donte Stallworth (DUI manslaughter), etc. and finding success with them. I guess taking chances on guys with questionable character but a high football upside finally caught up with them.

First, criminals rent cars because it helps shield them from contraband found within if they are pulled over (“officer, I had no idea there was a gun/weed in the glove compartment. The rental company’s at not have cleaned it).

Second, once you think AH is involved in the double, and you know a grey SUV was involved, it would take about two hours to find the car with nothing but cc records and car rental records. It’s not a huge caper to unravel.

  86. lunar2013 says: Jun 27, 2013 4:22 PM

He probably rented the silver SUV from the same place he rented the other SUV found during the Lloyd murder investigation. That guy is a dealer helper in the Hernandez ring down here. There may be a few more bodies that got got by AH’s crew or himself here. The bullets up there have been linked down here supposedly to a few bodies with holes in them. So your count is gonna head higher by the time this is over.

Classic case of escalation. He got away with stuff in Bristol. Then more and bigger stuff he did and got away with at the U. of Florida. And then he started murdering people and got away with it.

This all happened because of people like football coaches looking the other way because of his skill on the football field. They didn’t do him any favors by letting his criminal behavior escalate to the point of first degree murder.

Patriot Fans get to see what a real murderer looks like and compare it to Atlanta Politicians making Ray Lewis a Scapegoat. Do the analysis, don’t just take Jim Nantz’s word on it.

    On the other hand….

It seemed strange that he was driving a rental and now another rental of his is tied to a double murder. With everything that has unfolded it makes sense that he would rent cars to help cover his tracks. However, he was certainly sloppy by destroying cell phones & security cameras, leaving shell casings, allowing the victim to text his sister, shooting the victim in an area that had cameras. Am I missing anything else?

  113. vibesid says: Jun 27, 2013 5:09 PM

How about this for being a good friend: In Florida he shoots his buddy in the face, blowing out an eye, then dumps him in an alley to die. I would hope that my friends would at least take me to an ER after shooting me.

The only thing left is to try the OJ defense. Hernandez needs to gain 200+ pounds by just sitting in jail and eating. When the time comes, the defense brings the rental car outside the courtroom and in front of the judge, jury and on national TV he tries to get in.

If his ass don’t fit, you must acquit.

Once they targeted Hernandez, they tapped into the super-duper NSA evesdropping on everyone website. The reason it took so much time to tie AH to this SUV is of course that NSA website has so many users from China getting in too…response time delays. Anyway they ran Hernandez against all the car rental companies to find out what he rented. The silver SUV popped up.

To the bloggers who wrote for pft; this case has taken on a life of its own. Comparisons to ray Lewis are not relevant. If the people on the site want to bring it up then that is on them. But I would suggest that ray Lewis’s name not be linked on any articles that discuss this case. At this point I would consider it defamatory.

Honestly I think they are just throwing stuff at him to make victims of the families happy. They can’t solve some random murder so they figure pin it on this guy who has millions, the family won’t care because some how they will get some of that money. I don’t think this guy killed anyone. I think he seen the killing but he did not pull any trigger and I highly doubt Aaron Hernandez is hanging out on Boston street corners. This is a guy that was a premier TE in the NFL, I have a hard time thinking he would throw it all away just to kill some people…
But they did say he was in Latin Kings so I guess he is Puerto Ricans which in MA are a huge problem. These people are not nice people who hate white people…I know cause I lived there

Unless the prosecution is misrepresenting evidence it’s clear that Hernandez orchestrated last week’s killing and likely pulled the trigger… I don’t know about the rest, but even second degree murder in Massachusetts carries a mandatory 15 years before the possibility of parole…

Doesn’t this remove all doubt that one or both of Hernandez’s friends have flipped on him? It’s just too convenient for the police to locate a SUV they’ve been unable to find for over a year right after it may be tied to Hernandez.
    ————————————————-
Nah. Once the cops see that a guy who can afford to buy a fleet of Ferraris rents cars for his dirty work, they can check all his past rentals against unsolved crimes. Routine police work. Not saying his friends didn’t flip, though.

…yet to drop concerns the motive for the “other” murders. How soon before we hear the words “Nuthin’ personal, it wuz jus’ bi’ness.” ?

    WHICH BUSINESS WOULD THAT BE?

How big was AH’s crew and what were they selling? To whom? In how many States? I mean, the dude was operating in MASS, RI, FL. Where else? How soon before FBI, DEA, and the other acronyms show up to play?

Best set up the Big Top, because we may need all three rings for this circus.

  146. bmorelady says: Jun 29, 2013 1:42 AM

While the evidence is mounting and doesn’t look good for AH, the fact remains that he is innocent until proven guilty. For all of you constantly comparing this to RAY LEWIS, give it a rest. LEWIS was the only person in his party to be found guilty of anything and that was OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE–NOT MURDER. He hid evidence & lied, yes, but he thought he was protecting his friends. He went on to have a stellar career and never got in any type of trouble again. He’s retired now and has moved on from the NFL. The RAVENS organization, the city of BALTIMORE, and RAVEN NATION decided to stand behind him and that’s nobody else’s business. The Patriots feel they are doing what’s best for their team and that’s their business. But for all you people who are rushing to judge AH & RAY LEWIS, remember innocent people get arrested all the time and so do guilty ones. We don’t know what happened or why. I hope for the sake of AH’s baby daughter that his involvement is less than it seems and someone else did it. Maybe his friend or someone very close to him did this and he’s trying to protect them. We just don’t know. Stop being judge & jury of people we don’t really know. Stop being hypocritical and leave RAY LEWIS in the past.
