Vikings make Bishop official, cut Keglar

Stanford Keglar AP

The Vikings finally announced the acquisition of linebacker Desmond Bishop, and they might have ended the comeback attempt of another linebacker in the process.

Via Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com, the Vikings released linebacker Stanford Keglar to make room for Bishop on the roster.

Keglar was signed in May, after not playing a snap in the NFL since 2010. He had spent some time playing in the UFL, though he only received about a fourth of the money he was owed.

Since he said then he was giving the NFL one more shot, it could mean the end of the line for Keglar.

This is what is known as upgrading your roster.

  2. purplepride74 says: Jun 27, 2013 1:57 PM

Well, I should hope Bishop is better than this guy!!!

  3. gbmickey says: Jun 27, 2013 1:58 PM

Pretty funny the expectations are that little or the talent that bad that a player with a possible career ending injury is an upgrade.

Desmond Bishop was an amazing signing, not only did he sign for the league veteran minimum, he also comes with years of experience, the leading tackler on the Packers the precious year; and we’re taking away from a division rival while making our team better #Skol

Wow, he beat out a guy who hasn’t played NFL ball in 2 years! Way to go Bishop!

it could be that the Vikings upgrade that roster that Bishop is something that the cheese that…that…that.

Ex-Packer players sure do know the better team

Packers cut him…and didn’t offer to restructure his contract or anything…

So yeah…congrats on “taking” him from us.

These are the same Viking fans that said Favre was gonna take Minn to the Super Bowl a few years ago. How did that work out again?

Actually, we were well on our way there until the Saints decided to cheat.
    So…

12 men in the huddle, Jenn Sterger, Sidney Rice not getting surgery on his hip and Randy Moss quitting on the Vikings during the Patriots game is how that worked out. If Rice didn’t pull that stunt and had surgery right after the season ended the Vikings wouldn’t have fallen to pieces in Favre part deux. Instead he used the injury has leverage to get a new contract and now he’s in Seattle. The Vikings have rebuilt. They should have got Favre back for the playoffs last year but Musgrave lost that game just as much as Webb.

Bishop is a pretty good player. I doubt very much that he’s any good at the pants-less dancing that us Packer fans enjoy. Let’s tip a few gbmickey! Show ‘em how it’s done!

It is entirely possible that my Packers are going to be in the playoff hunt despite our sub-par draft.

Bishop was a great LB. One of the best in the league, he didn’t leave via free agency, he was released. Released by arguably the best judge of talent today in the NFL (Ted Thompson). GB had the choice to keep him, they choose to let him go even knowing that he could end up in MN. Queens can claim him as an upgrade if they want, but that is just a reflection of the level of talent previously at that position. If he was that great, GB would have kept him.
Enjoy the season Minny in whatever dump of a stadium you are playing in this year, I’ll be watching you abuse Peterson to a .500 season and his early retirement.

Best judge of talent on offense perhaps, but how many first round busts on defense? Let me know when AJ Hawk makes a tackle before the line of scrimmage.

The only abuse Peterson will have is when he racks up 500 yards againt the Dumb Cappers defense that just lost their best tackling linebacker.

I will look forward to the first defensive snap against Sharon this year, Bishop sack and concussion for poor Sharon, we do have that awful dome floor one more year for him to bounce off.

Congrats to the Vikes, self appointed paper champions in 2013!

    Previous winners:

Detroit Lions 2012 Chicago Bears 2011 Minnesota Vikings 2010

In each instance, paper champion = no playoffs that year.

  19. ktm300xcwe says: Jun 27, 2013 3:20 PM

LOL Ted Thompson the best judge of talent in the NFL today? Seriously? How is that offensive line working out for the Packers? The porous defense? Get real, Ted Thompson traded a draft pick to move up to draft BJ Sander A PUNTER!!! How did that work out for the Packers. Ted Thompson couldn’t hold Ron Wolf’s jock.

  20. ponderthedumpoffking says: Jun 27, 2013 3:22 PM

Oh, look. Jmak is praying the best player at the most important position gets injured.

What’s more likely? Peterson, with so many miles on those running back tires gets hurt and the Vikings fall to last in the division.

    Rodgers concussion – 2% chance

    Peterson getting derailed – 50%

    Everyone knows this.

  21. tokyosanbblaster says: Jun 27, 2013 3:23 PM

Despite our reliance on AJ Hawk, the Pack is still easily gonna be near – or even above – .500 this season.

    Checkmate.

  23. jmak79 says: Jun 27, 2013 3:28 PM

tokyosandblaster, incorrect but whats the point of explaining to you that every talking head has GB picked to win the division.

We are no more self appointed than Sharon’s team if all you are gonna look at is what fans are saying.

  24. tokyosanbblaster says: Jun 27, 2013 3:31 PM

Is “derailed” an injury? I wish someone would make up some statistics about it.

  25. deltaoracle says: Jun 27, 2013 3:31 PM

Unbias, Bishop was not GB’s leading tackler last season. And it wasn’t that “precious” a season by Packer standards.

BJ Sander was during the Sherman era in Green Bay, NOT a Ted Thompson pick.

Awesome, now the Vikings will still finish in last place, but they will give up a few less points.

  28. omgvikingsrule says: Jun 27, 2013 4:04 PM

You guys, NOTHING can stop the Adrian Peterson machine! And now we have the best linebackers in the NFL. Not to mention Shariff Floyd is easily already defensive rookie of the year. Top that off with Christian Ponder improving on his best game as a pro, and there’s no reason to think the Vikings can’t go 19-0

My sister is hot. Don’t judge me.

I haven’t seen too many Viking fans appointing them champions. We just have some optimism about our team because they’re headed in the right direction. Sorry if that offends you.

You forgot about 2008 Green Bay Packers. Also, you claim your team will win the Super Bowl every year but it rarely works out that way.

  30. greenngld says: Jun 27, 2013 4:15 PM

Note for Viking fan posters: Please consider the Packers cut Bishop, not even offering a restructured contract. That might help form your posts better so you don’t sound like you think the Vikes made some awesome signing that hurt the Packers.

    Thanks.

  32. pillowporkers says: Jun 27, 2013 4:22 PM

    @Spielman the Magician:

Remember two year ago when every packer fan told us how they were the greatest team ever assembled, and then not only lost, but got crushed by 3 scores on their home turf to a 9-7 football team in the first round of the playoffs, the first time a 15-1 team didn’t at least make the conference championship? I do at least.

  33. wingsnwater says: Jun 27, 2013 4:33 PM

From JSonline: May 21, 2013 “All eyes will be on Bishop this year and how he responds once he does get on the field. The Packers covered their backs this off-season by restructuring A.J. Hawk‘s deal and re-signing Brad Jones. When healthy, Bishop is the best of the three. In his two years as the starter — 2010 and 2011 — Bishop had 218 tackles, eight sacks, four forced fumbles and nine pass break-ups.”

In Green Bay sports reporters own words^^^….don’t let Packer fans kid you they’re not ticked at losing Bishop.

  34. tokyosandblaster says: Jun 27, 2013 4:51 PM

“How he responds once he gets on the field.”

He must not have responded well, because the Packers cut him rather than pay 3 million for him this year. Then, three teams offered league minimum after working him out.

    Were you at those workouts?

  35. omgvikingsrule says: Jun 27, 2013 5:25 PM

    @pillowporkme,

    Totes mcgoats!!!

Never mind a 15-1 team playing in a wild card round, like you suggested, or the fact that the Giants then won the Super Bowl, you have to keep posting zingers like this! I can’t… I have to have mom type this stuff for me.

But now we totally own the Packers! Everyone knows that if Christian Ponder would have played, the Packers would have lost by 9 tds.

    FACT.

  38. mackstrong2013 says: Jun 28, 2013 11:04 PM

Lol, any team who rolls A.J. Hawk out as a starter should probably hush about another teams LB corps. I know 750k is a lot of yo-yo’s and jacks, or whatever the hell people do in GB. I think I’ll find a way to live with the huge risk though.

  40. f00tballkn0ledge says: Jul 8, 2013 2:30 PM

The packers defense is gonna be ABSOLUTE TRASH against the run this year. I hear no one talking about how much charles woodson had an impact against the run i think it was on week 17 when we played you girls and he was injured. And everyone knows how all day rushed for over 200 yards in that game. Then you get woodson back in the playoffs and peterson looked human again, so the fact that you girls lost woodson and bishop who were in my opinion the two defensive star players (besides mathews) is a huge impact
