Kaepernick trying to balance rest and readiness

Colin Kaepernick has heard coach Jim Harbaugh’s concerns that he might be getting “too jacked-up.”

At the same time, he’s finding it hard to fight his own urge to work out more.

Kaepernick said during an appearance on KNBR (via the Sacramento Bee) that he was trying to weigh how much to push and how much to rest in his month before the start of training camp.

That’s the balance I’m trying to find,” Kaepernick said. “Can I get big, can I get strong and still remain flexible enough to go out and throw the ball well?”

Kaepernick said he had the same conversation with guard Mike Iupati, but told his blocker: “If your body never knows rest, it never craves it.”

He’s kept a frantic pace this offseason, and may have found a workout partner when he made an appearance with Michelle Obama, who did his signature pose with him for photographers.

“It was something where I had to take advantage of the opportunity,” he said of the meeting with the First Lady. “She was more than willing. She was a great sport about it. I mean, she was a really cool lady. . . .

“She definitely has the arms for it.”

So does Kaepernick, though he’s still young, and hasn’t taken the number of hits that will make him savor offseasons when he’s older.

Wait… I thought his signature pose was him kissing his bicep. You know… Kaepernicking!!1!!!!!

Please get here soon, NFL season.

I love his work ethic. He seems really committed to working hard, whether it is in the weight room or on the field. Even if you root for another team and are therefore rooting for Kaep to not succeed, you have to admire and respect that attitude. With all these stories about Aaron Hernandez and Josh Brent, it’s refreshing to hear these kinds of things.

I bet he wished he did not have all those Tats now!

How great is it to see a young man trying to figure out if he’s working too much. Only experience will teach him the balance he needs to strike. I’m a huge fan of his, Russell Wilson’s and Cam.

It’s good to know how hard they all work and not to hear about off the field issues. If they fail, it will not be from lack of effort. But I do think Cam and Colin may have a better grasp at balance than Russell at this point. He never stops, so they may have to lock him out of the facility to save him from himself.

BTW, what a healthy and good looking FLOTUS we have.

In addition to being big, strong and fast, with a rifle arm, the kid is smart, works hard, keeps his nose clean and is focused on getting better in the off season. There isn’t a GM in the NFL that wouldn’t give his left nut to have him on their team. Anybody that thinks he’s a one hit wonder either is jealous or just plain stupid.

“If your body never knows rest, it never craves it.”

    That quote is awesome!

Kaepernick said he had the same conversation with guard Mike Iupati, but told his blocker: “If your body never knows rest, it never craves it.”

That’s one ignorant statement. Anyone who knows anything about physical exertion and exercise knows that muscles need time to flush waste and toxins and rebuild. It’s called ‘rest’. You can’t constantly tear something down without cost. He’ll eventually crash and burn if he lives by that code.

“self absorbed tool”…? Stay classy Seahawk fans!

  15. greyhawk9 says: Jun 28, 2013 3:21 PM

this guy is completely self absorbed.
look at my shoes.. look at my tats.. i cant stop working out… watch me kiss myself. spend more time learning how to be an effective leader and less time talking about yourself and how fantastic you are

Shell he might want to focus on what his weaknesses are rather than thinking that working out in the weight room is the ticket.
For example……He lacking timing and touch on the football and also being calm in he pocket.

A QB can’t will himself to be good….ala Tebow.

Any “Blood” tats like Hernandez? I’m sure he is just an awesome dude too.

  19. htowntexan says: Jun 28, 2013 3:58 PM

I know sleeves of tats don’t necessarily mean you are a criminal, but people now view Kaep in the same light they do A. Hernandez.

Someone needs to explain to these kids that permanently scaring your body so you will forever look like a hardened criminal is not a good idea.

Can’t say i like the seahawks, but i’ll agree with this guys assessment… Kaepernick, you’ve only played half an nfl season and regardless of how much niners fans whine you have NOT arrived yet. Please stop acting like you’re the second coming…

  23. fyreandnice says: Jun 28, 2013 4:20 PM

Why are some NFL fans so uptight about tattoos? I don’t get it. Probably opposed to rock & roll and beer, too, freakin’ killjoys.

As far as Kaep goes, he has a ton of room for improvement. One hit wonder? Fat chance. He will miss Crabtree for sure but will still be significantly better than he was last year now that he is in his 3rd season and the starter from day one.

  24. goldrush36 says: Jun 28, 2013 4:26 PM

You clowns comparing him to Hernandez need to get a clue. Especially the dingleberry saying everyone now views them the same way. A-Hern has been an asshat since at least puberty. Kaep has always kept his nose clean. I understand your bitterness though. I would be bitter too if I were making 8 bucks an hr

  25. sonoco says: Jun 28, 2013 5:33 PM

The guy does a radio interview and he’s self-absorbed? CK is a good kid and an extremely hard worker and Hawk fans please spare us the lame comparisons to Mr. Russell regurgitated cliche` Wilson who always feeds the lemmings exactly what they want to hear with every calculated comment and hospital visit. Little Russ can play ball, but he’s a plastic phony when talking to media.

  26. ridgebak says: Jun 28, 2013 5:42 PM

To say Kaerpernick is self absorbed is ignorant. Maybe you ignorant people should check how much time he has spent and money raised for Camp Taylor, a camp for kids with heart defects.

  27. sampsonswag01 says: Jun 28, 2013 11:28 PM

^^^^who would ‘thumbs down’ that comment??

  28. enrique24rabbito says: Jun 29, 2013 5:18 AM

“If your body never knows rest, it never craves it.”

That only works when you’re pumping your body full of HGH. Just watch, as soon as the nflpa approves random HGH testing we’ll get a quote from Kaep about how crucial off days are for recovery and how sore he is after games. Am I the only one who can see through this dude, and harbaugh for that matter?

  29. sixjak says: Jun 30, 2013 9:40 PM

Yes you are the only one who sees through Kaep and Harbaugh. None of the rest of us see what you see which is a huge red flag for you unfortunately.
