Jay-Z isn’t sweating NFLPA investigation

Jay-Z once rapped that he kept one eye open like CBS because of all the things causing him stress in his life, but that was way back in 1996 and things have gotten a bit easier for the mogul since then.

Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger passes along word that the the lyrics from “La Familia” were released on Monday and contain a reference to the investigation. As you’d probably guess, a guy who named his forthcoming album “Magna Carta Holy Grail” isn’t spending too much time sweating an NFLPA inquiry into whether Kim Miale of Jay-Z’s new Roc Nation agency secured Smith as a client with the help of the man who sometimes calls himself Hova.

“NFL investigations/ Oh don’t make me laugh /FBI investigation /We stood up to that,” Jay-Z raps.

Yes, Jay-Z may have 99 problems but he clearly doesn’t think that the NFLPA is one.

Come on. Haven’t you all reached your quota of using that tired line? The man has been in the game since ’95 and has over a hundred songs to his name. Can you think of something else?

  3. kazra182 says: Jul 1, 2013 3:11 PM

He isn’t sweating it, because Jay-Z’s sweat is liquid gold, which would result in a loss of money.

  4. kingmj4891 says: Jul 1, 2013 3:12 PM

Just like a punk like everyone else who thinks the rules don’t apply to them. Well Mr. Z they do apply to you just like everyone else so get use to it.

  5. thestrategyexpert says: Jul 1, 2013 3:14 PM

Why would he sweat it? Again you have DeMaurice Smith in charge who is not qualified to his lead his group and protect them from guys like Jay-Z that want to play the loopholes. He’s no threat, he’s a door of opportunity for anybody that wants to pass through and take advantage of him. Jay-Z was essentially an invited guest. It’s pretty funny to me to see such a big organization ran by such a small mindset.

    @ kingmj4891

You just described the mindset of every agent on the planet.

Is the singular form of Hova, Hovum?

Only sheep like this prick. Him and his god awful wife can go away now.

Somehow stuff always happens to keep this dude relevant. He hasn’t had a hit single since like 2002 and dude’s about as hood as Donald Trump. His wife hasn’t had a top 10 single in 10 years and gets the Superbowl gig.

I know if I had a contract to negotiate worth over $100 million Id go to JayZ’s sports agency too…..SMH.

This is like asking a Kim Kardashian to manage a fortune 500 company because of social status. Absurd and simply stupid.

    Hov is one lucky dude.

dude is just a straight up gangsta ..take notes Hernandez

  15. chefgoldblum says: Jul 1, 2013 3:54 PM

If you wanted to go the lyrical route instead of “99 Problems” you could say, “He didn’t pass the bar but he knows a little bit / Enough to know that your GED, Bachelor’s Degree, MBA and Juris Doctorate don’t mean s—.”

  16. cameron poe says: Jul 1, 2013 3:56 PM

In all seriousness, what does it matter to him? I mean we are talking about a dude who is already worth half a billion clams, right? In the end what exactly can the NFLPA do to him? Is he facing jail time or life threatening results if they find a ruling not in his favor? No he is not. All that happens is he maybe makes a little less money. Seems to me like this dude has nothing to worry about. And with the way athletes are flocking to him I think the other agencies should probably be more concerned with what the NFLPA or NFL decides.

yeah and because jayz was “the ceo of def jamand built an empire” off of making music and a clothing line that means hes capable of stepping into the management of hundred million dollar legal contracts? And i made tbe bad comparison? Ok dude go buy another jayz album ya turd

  21. staff2cj says: Jul 1, 2013 4:35 PM

Not only is Jigga ugly; he needs to stop sampling other people music. Create your own; oops you can’t.

Sweet pop culture take! Jay-Z has been a little busy building up his 1/2 billion dollar empire. And, any recollection of a couple of years back when Mrs. Jay-Z was rallying “All the Single Ladies?”

  23. notoriousjebus says: Jul 1, 2013 4:49 PM

Jay-Z isn’t trying to actually be the agent is he? I thought he was just trying to own the agency, and put in face time to pull the clients, while experienced agents will be handling the tasks agents typically handle.

  24. hedleykow says: Jul 1, 2013 4:56 PM

The fact is that no one with a billion dollars is sweating anything, with the possible exception of Haslam who might be rooming with Hernandez later on.

  25. nsconman21 says: Jul 1, 2013 4:59 PM

Careful HOVA, Mr. Goddell can flex his muscles and he runs a pretty powerful organization too, one that your trying to get a piece of.

  26. alexb1234 says: Jul 1, 2013 5:32 PM

Idk why everyone wants to hate on Jay-Z dude is worth near a billion dollars BECAUSE he is a great buisness man not because he is a rapper – the rapping just opened the door for him….

he sucessfully has run his own label, clothing company, and being the CEO of Def Jam is no BS job…

Jay isn’t worried about the NFL approving him bc he knows they will…hop off
