It’s one thing to go out, end up in a bar fight, and not remember anything.

For Chargers running back Ryan Mathews, however, all that happened without the “getting in a bar fight” portion.

Mathews put out word on Twitter this morning that he was not involved in a reported fight that led to someone not him being arrested, and told Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego that he wasn’t sure how it happened.

I don’t know how my name got twisted in all this [stuff],” Mathews said. “I don’t know why my name is even being brought up.”

Mathews has been awake less than an hour (he’s on the West Coast, so Rise and Grind rules may still apply), but already fielded many phone calls and texts about his “arrest.”

He described the situation as “crazy,” and insisted he wasn’t involved.

I didn’t hit anybody. I wasn’t arrested. . . . I didn’t see a fight. I didn’t see anything,” he said.

Hopefully he can get some rest now, and hopefully people who write things about arrest reports can make sure the person named is actually arrested next time.
