Vick drops to No. 25 on Jaws’ quarterback list

The man who once wore number 7 in Philly has a new number for the guy who currently wears that jersey:  25.

That’s where former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski has placed current Eagles quarterback Mike Vick on Jaws’ annual quarterback ranking, via Dan Graziano of ESPN.com.  Last year, Vick was No. 12.

But Jaworski sees the glass as one-25th full for Vick.  Jaws believes Vick remains the most talented quarterback on the roster, and Jaworski believes that Vick’s 98.0 quarterback rating in the two-minute offense bodes well for Vick’s performance in Chip Kelly’s up-tempo attack.

“I would not be surprised if Vick ends the season better than my 25th-rated quarterback,” Jaworski said.

First, Vick needs to start the season as the Eagles’ first-rated quarterback.  Kelly has yet to give Vick the job, meaning that the guy who is No. 25 for Jaworski could still be No. 2 in Philly.

I’m not sure there are 7 quarterbacks worse than Vick.

  2. bennyb82 says: Jul 3, 2013 8:41 PM

I am not an Eagles fan…not really even a Vick fan…but if his offensive line is halfway decent then Vick can be a solid QB. Did anybody watch him last year? It was brutal watching him take 3 to 5 steps back and get rocked. Not even Brady can perform great when he has no time to throw.

  3. captainwisdom8888 says: Jul 3, 2013 8:43 PM

Vick has a lot to prove this season, and his performance this year will shape the rest of his career in this league. If he manages to have a resurgence in Chip Kelly’s offense, he may remain a starter in this league whether he stays with the team or not. If Vick has another year like last year, he can expect to be holding a clipboard moving forward…

  4. mrlaloosh says: Jul 3, 2013 8:45 PM

“Vick number 2″. Good one, Florio.

  5. yahmule says: Jul 3, 2013 8:56 PM

    Way too high.

  6. captainwisdom8888 says: Jul 3, 2013 8:57 PM

Very few teams in the NFL have the multitude of dynamic offensive weapons that the Eagles possess. A top-5 RB capable of 50+ receptions, a solid backup RB Bryce Brown, D. Jackson, Maclin, and a premier TE group. Vick needs to learn how to operate an efficient offense with flawless execution. Letting all this talent go to waste is a travesty, and at some point we’re going to have to see what we really have in Nck Foles and Matt Barkley.

  7. brownsalwaysrebuilding says: Jul 3, 2013 9:03 PM

He’s a better player than people give him credit for ever since the prison thing.

  8. officialgame says: Jul 3, 2013 9:03 PM

Not a Vick fan but there are not 25 QB’s better then him. There are however 25 better commentators then Jaws.

  9. wfingers23 says: Jul 3, 2013 9:05 PM

Not an Eagles fan, but no qb would’ve done well behind that “line”…if thats what you want to call it.

  10. dagrizzman says: Jul 3, 2013 9:19 PM

Who is Jaws to be an expert anyways ? I get a kick out of these ESPN experts / ex jocks. He had Big Ben at 19 behind some that couldn’t start on most good teams. His opinion is garbage .

  11. nutsacker says: Jul 3, 2013 9:40 PM

Is Tony Romo ranked 32nd then?

  12. rcali says: Jul 3, 2013 9:41 PM

Uh oh. Jaws should be expecting a call from Warren Moon very soon.

  13. liontuss says: Jul 3, 2013 9:44 PM

You know what? Jaw’s (and what a pathetic nickname that is; I much preferred “The Polish Rifle”) opinions suck.

    That is all.

  14. nativeraider says: Jul 3, 2013 9:48 PM

Sorry Jaws but nobody really cares what you think. If guys like Joe Montana, Dan Marino or even Jim Kelly gave their list I think it would be more credible.

  15. raiderinva says: Jul 3, 2013 9:51 PM

I wonder where Jaws would rate himself on one of these list from when he played….

Jaws played with Dan Fouts, Joe Montana, Doug Williams, Jim Plunkett, Terry Bradshaw, Archie Manning, and the ’83 draft class……

  16. thestrategyexpert says: Jul 3, 2013 9:53 PM

At what ranking level do you become surprised? Kind of left us hanging on the rest of the info for that part.

  17. anygivenwednesday13 says: Jul 3, 2013 10:15 PM

Vick (“dislike” all you want) had the god-given talents to potentially be the Michael Jordan of the NFL. But he marred his own potential with stupid off the field hobbies, drugs, and a poor work ethic. Oh year and only Alge Crumpler to throw to.

Now that he may … may … finally get the magical “it.” His performances has been marred by a porous O-line & play calling that would lead you to think Andy wanted to get his QB crushed (I know that wasnt truly the case).

Taking that into consideration: it’s still hard to believe someone can develop work-ethic at his age (then again … I’ve not been to prison).

I’m a tempered Falcons fan (meaning you’ll never hear me use idiotic terms like Cowgirls, Forty-whiners, or Vi-Queens) but I think Vick could still do some magic with a solid line.

  18. darocnessmonsta says: Jul 3, 2013 10:20 PM

Funny how Vick gets the if he had a line excuse for his performance last year but Romo doesnt get that Luxury…SMH he had guys in his face just as much or more than Vick and still managed to throw for 4000 yds…hmmm!!!!

  19. rabbdogg says: Jul 3, 2013 10:25 PM

nick fowles is poo poo..Barkley is a rookie..that’s what u have in those two..stop being stupid..start vick

  20. jaredo10 says: Jul 3, 2013 10:35 PM

hoping the 2010 Vick comes to play this season with hopefully a healthy/improved o line

  21. drohanimal says: Jul 3, 2013 10:42 PM

Vick will end the year as a top 5 QB and lead his team to a division title.

  22. shlort says: Jul 3, 2013 10:51 PM

25 on the list of all time eagle QBs? That is about right I guess.

  23. mwitt5148 says: Jul 3, 2013 10:59 PM

I’m an eagles fan and I’ve watched Vick from the beginning. He sucks. He can’t read defenses and he can’t recognize the blitz. Eagles vs Vikings 2010. Vikings ran corner blitz all game and it was the same player every time. Vick couldn’t even figure that out. After that game it was all downhill. Teams saw that. I’ve watched Brian Baldinger break down tape and theres receivers running wide open on every play and Vick doesn’t see them. And it’s not a question of a healthy offensive line. In 2011 the line was outstanding. That was Shadys big year. Vick played poorly then as well throwing turnovers all season. He can’t play. Nick Foles got the majority of the reps in one practice this offseason because he executed the offense the way Chip Kelly wanted it done. It was a drill where you keep throwing every time you get a first down. That’s what this offense is up tempo all game creating first downs. Vick can’t do that. The origins of the current Patriots offense came from Chip Kelly.

Sounds about right. Good to see the analyst’s have stopped drinking the kool-aid with this guy.

  25. whyrunbackwardsyoullvomit says: Jul 3, 2013 11:19 PM

Jaws had him #12 last year which goes to show you how much this list means.

  26. stinkfingers says: Jul 3, 2013 11:22 PM

Offensive line doesn’t make him fumble or throw picks. Before he was hurt, he was turning the ball over on a Sanchez-like pace. Can’t blame anyone but Mike for that.

  27. coltzfan166 says: Jul 3, 2013 11:25 PM

Well to be fair, he is better than Sanchez, Ponder, Gabbert, Weeden, maybe Jake Locker and Carson Palmer and Matt Flynn. That’s makes him 26.

    Get it right Jaws.

  28. djax10isthebomb says: Jul 3, 2013 11:57 PM

Foles or Barkley please! Let’s see what they’re working with.

Tired of Michael Vick fumbling the ball near the goal line whenever he’s breathed on by a defender. I saw him getting chased down from behind (in the open field mind you) last year by defensive tackles…

25 does seem right around where I’d place him, maybe even a couple of spots below that.

I love my Eagles and want to see them look toward the future,….without Vick in it.

If he legitimately wins the starting QB job, it’s only a matter of time before he’s hurt and on the sidelines watching Foles or Barkley play anyways. Why wait for the inevitable while slowing down the progression of the younger guys?

  30. lightofkolob says: Jul 4, 2013 12:52 AM

Jaws is losing some credibility in my book. Vick is still a top 10 QB

  31. jjbadd385 says: Jul 4, 2013 12:53 AM

Its hard to imagine people placing all the blame on Vick….IM nowhere close to an Eagles fan, but I do know Vick got killed on nearly every drop back last year… he’s much better than he gets credit for…

  32. rocknroller11 says: Jul 4, 2013 1:17 AM

    It’s Jaws!! Who cares!!

  33. blackngold4life says: Jul 4, 2013 1:18 AM

That is utterly REDICULOUS! 25? anybody who agrees with this just dosent like Vick plain and simple and not lookin at it in a football sence. OK he can do a better job of holding on to the ball..but that putrid O-Line can also block..(I thought the Steelers line was bad) (& juries are no excuse) and that overpriced Defence can keep teams out the end zone and relearn jow to TACKLE. I’d place him middle of the pack at worse

  34. bobzilla1001 says: Jul 4, 2013 1:37 AM

All of Jaworski’s low-rated QBs played on bad TEAMS last season. And I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that all of his high-rated QBs will be those who played on good TEAMS last season.
    Great formula.
Jaworski has no creditability until he has the guts to rate a QB on a good team low and/or rate a QB on a bad team high. Of course, that might take a bit of actual homework…
    Jaworski’s opinions are meaningless.

  35. rajbais says: Jul 4, 2013 1:58 AM

Can’t blame Jaws, but the greater the disparity between good and bad decision making is what makes a QB better.

The gap between the # of good and bad decisions is shrinking with Vick and that is why I’m okay of he’s gone after the preseason.

  36. blanchonegro says: Jul 4, 2013 6:14 AM

Vick has even said he didnt watch game film in Atlanta and i’m pretty sure he doesnt watch it now either. Oline didnt do a good job but when u hold on to the ball cause you dont know what defense the other team is running its going to make them look bad. You cant win with someone who isnt dedicated.

The Eagles didn’t have a great OL last year, there’s no doubt. But Vick makes them worse with his inability to read even simple CAT blitzes and to get rid of the ball in a timely fashion.

It isn’t that Vick isn’t dedicated, it is that he just doesn’t know the game. He doesn’t know the X’s and O’s of football. He is not intelligent enough to absorb a sufficient amount of information to make himself better. He is at his limit. Vick watching game film is useless becaue he can’t grasp what is happening and why.

    Jay Cutler CHI
    Andy Dalton CIN
    Josh Freeman TB
    Philip Rivers SD
    Carson Palmer ARI
    Ryan Tannehill MIA
    Sam Bradford STL
    Alex Smith KC

Based on last year alone, I’m not so sure I would want any of these guys ahead of Vick. I’d probably take Bradford, Tannehill, Freeman, and Dalton based on their age and potential to improve. Cutler, Rivers, and Palmer are good, could be great, or could really, really suck-just like Vick. I’ve never been impressed with Alex Smith.

At worst, he’s top 25. At best he’s top 18-20.

    __________________________________
Why is it that you list Kelly and Marino? As if they had done something better than Jaws did? I believe they all have the same amount of SB rings.. 91-94 the Bills lost 4 superbowls. Marino never made it to one. Jaws, made it to 1.

  47. polapea says: Jul 9, 2013 8:11 AM

I love how everyone blames the o-line for all his issues. The o-line had tons of injuries last year but Vick still holds the ball way too long. He doesn’t make quick decisions.

And if you think Foles sucks, you don’t know football. The kid played pretty damn well in 7 starts. Not sure he fits Kelly’s O but he could be a decent starter in the league if he gets some experience. He has good pocket awareness and slides well. He will also keep his eyes downfield to make throws in the face of pressure.

    Foles- 7 Games: 60% completion; 79.1 Rating; 6 TD’s: 5 INTs

    Vick- 10 games: 58% completion; 78.1 Rating; 12 TD’s: 10 INT’s

One guy is a rookie and one guy has 12 years in the league.
