Eric Reid signs with 49ers

Screen Shot 2013-07-05 at 6.26.04 PM

The 49ers’ first-round draft pick is officially under contract.

Eric Reid, the safety drafted No. 18 overall by the 49ers in April, announced the signing through social media. “Beyond blessed! Officially a 49ER!” Reid wrote on Twitter, with a link to an Instagram picture of him signing.

The 49ers traded their first- and third-round picks (No. 31 and No. 74) to the Cowboys to move up to No. 18 to draft Reid, who was an All-American as a junior last year at LSU. He is expected to start at free safety for the 49ers, who lost last year’s starting free safety, Dashon Goldson, to Tampa Bay in free agency.

San Francisco now has all 11 of its draft picks under contract. Reid is the 10th first-round pick in this year’s draft to sign his contract.

It’s puzzling to think that the Cowboys would rather move almost out of the 1st round completely, just to add a 3rd round selection to their draft board and eventually draft a center whom many gave a 3rd round grade to. I would absolutely hate to be a fan of the Dallas Cowboys…

    Congratulations Eric Reid!!
You are now a proud part of the 2nd best team in the NFC West behind the Seattle Seahawks.
You now get to play for the leagues most arrogant, obnoxious, overrated and biggest crybaby.
never let the Niner “fans” know your home address though, because most are Hernandez impersonators.

When the leagues best QB Mr. Russell Wilson exploits you for long TD passes, and Mr. Percy Harvin runs by you to catch them over and over again before Mr. Marshawn Lynch runs you over like a Mack Truck for TDS, those classy “fans” will be looking for you

Then you can truely experience being a FortyWHiner while those Seahawks are playing in multiple Super Bowls during the next 10 years after being assaulted, punked, and abused by Russell Wilson and Co.

I liked this kid a lot. Had him ahead of Elam. I hope ,I’m wrong and Elam is the safety of the draft.

In other news social media hasn’t taken responsibility for the situation in Egypt yet, should be anytime now.

49ers, still trying to get over drafting Taylor Mayes(206 native&USC alum) in the second round way back in 09 when The Brain Trust drafted Leigon of Boom founding fathers Mr. Thomas and Mr. Chancellor in the first and fifth rounds.
I know this comes as news to you so called niner die hards as most have only been following the team since 2010 5/ 8.

  7. panthrobro says: Jul 5, 2013 8:50 PM

Stiff in the hips, not a good open field tackler. 49ers are going to wish they drafted Elam instead. I’m a huge SEC fan and was shocked the 49ers drafted the wrong guy. They basicly drafted Taylor Mays all over again.

  8. thefox61 says: Jul 5, 2013 9:02 PM

The Seahawks are also glad you are 49er.

  9. kleppnasty says: Jul 5, 2013 9:05 PM

Are Seahawks fans talking about bandwagoners? I mean, I understand the 9ers probably acquired a lot of new ‘fans’, but they have had an established fan base at worst since the 80s. Seattle has had a fan base for what, 2 years if I’m generous? There’s a reason the stadium has to pump in crowd noise, the 12th man was literally one dude from when Steve Largent retired until about October 2012.

  10. jonnybrink67 says: Jul 5, 2013 9:10 PM

@hawkstadamus .. Trying to get over Mays? LOL. Get out of here. Harbaugh didn’t pick him, and both our safeties were slotted in to start in the 2013 pro bowl. Thomas took over because, uh, we went farther than the hawks.

  12. mblade says: Jul 5, 2013 9:26 PM

Iknoweverything is an idiot. So please tell me, how many Super Bowl trophies do the Shehawks hold? Your only claim to fame is that “you wished you were good” Your coach “Pete the cheat” can’t even begin to follow the rules. Worse yet, he cheated at USC then bailed instead of “facing the music” for his indiscretions. He is a coward. Seadderal Shehawks will forevermore be “also-rans”.
As a long time 49er fan, can’t wait for this season.

I am glad the Niners addressed the loss of Dashon Goldson first. Eric has some big shoes to fill, hopefully he is motivated to take up the task.

A go to excuse for SEA-hag trolls is that Niner fans only have our past to look to. Well we do have a storied past, but even that’s something that you can’t say. You just tried to nominate yourselves on your teams Mt. Rushmore?

You boast of being the most intense and loudest fan base. Yet without a stadium designed to amplify the noise your no louder than Falcon, Saint or Pittsburgh fans. And if you want a diehard fanbase the Raiders can attest to that. Those guys show up looking like Halloween every year and their team sucks. You beat the Niners once in four tries, anoint yourselves the next dynasty and are as obnoxious a group as has been seen.

    You hacks define fair weather.

Let me start by stating that I am a Seahawks fan. That being said, I hope this guy is the real deal. I look forward to the two games (minimum) between the Hawks and the Niners next year. I love watching the Niners make all the right moves Carradine and Lattimore but hope that the Hawks have countered them. This is the best rivalry in the NFL in 2013. Let all the Harbaugh haters and Carroll haters bitch and moan, this year is going to be fun.

I can understand why Dallas traded back at this point. For all of Reid’s superlatives if anyone watched Clemson/Tahj Boyd/Sammy Watkins/DeAndre Hopkins whip them in the bowl game this past year, you wouldn’t have been surprised if he wasn’t a 1st round pick. Teams like San Fran at this point can look past initial flaws because other pieces in the secondary ease the load on the kid. I think out of the top tier safeties, Cyprien was the top guy.

This kid got some semi big shoes cause for all the crushing hits and big plays by goldson I came name a play were he got burn for being to aggressive. I wish niners could’ve keep goldson but he wasn’t worth the money tamp throw at him. Reid coming from the sec and playing in big games should have him ready for the ones to come.

Wow! for a team that has never won anything in their miserable existence The seamenhawk fans sure talk a lot of smack. Next time they touch a Lombardi trophy, it will be the first time, where as the 49ers are working on #6, just sayin

  22. gabyguti15 says: Jul 6, 2013 2:49 AM

Can anyone tell me how many Super Bowls the Seahawks have won? Whenever I think of the Seahawks I get reminded of “the boz” being run over.

I liked Mays at USC too bad he just couldn’t get it together. He had flashes as a 49er and as a Bengal

  26. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Jul 7, 2013 2:27 PM

Word from camp is Reid can’t cover his grandma and is slowly learning the play book.

The 49ers were idiots to trade up and take him in the Cowboys spot considering there were at least 2 safeties (Elam and Cyprien) better than Reid they could have picked late in the 1st round.

The Cowboys picked safety JJ Wilcox in the 3rd (Thanks 49ers) and he will be much better than Reid.

Take cheap shots at Dallas if you like but this move is proving to be a blunder by the 49ers.

Niner fans are not only completely delusional but they also project their own bandwagon affliction onto others. We are not 3-1 against you we have been in this division since 2002 and we’ve been to the playoffs six out of the last ten years. You have not done so well. Or were you not paying attention during the Cody Picket era?
So here’s some news for you guys that doesn’t come from the 80’s. you guys lost a shot at the Super Bowl on your own field against only so-so giants team. Then when you guys made ot to the superbowl You guys stunk it up big time. Your boy kaep can’t throw a fade rout to save his life or your team. Big arm sure but he puts no arc or touch on the ball. Now Troy Aikmen he threw a nice fade rout.

Dude, if you’re going to come to the Niners board and talk nonsense like this, can you at least check your grammar before posting?

    Thank you!
