Cruz gets $15.6 million guarantees in new deal

It didn’t take long to bridge the gap between “very close” and done.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, the new contract extension agreed to by Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is worth $43 million for the five new years of the deal, on top of the $2.987 million he was scheduled to make this year as a restricted free agent.

The deal also reportedly includes $15.6 million in guarantees, according to Glazer.

While a strong showing for Cruz, six years at roughly $46 million falls well short of what Cruz was hoping for early in the process.

What a steal for the Giants, wow

6 more years he can catch a 80 yard touchdown against the deadskins.

Cruz shouldnt be so greedy. The Giants are a class act and they did the ethical and christian thing. Eli took pay cut and the organisation did everything to accommodate greedy Cruz.

As a Giants fan and a fantasy football owner that has Victor Cruz on my team I was starting to get a little annoyed with this situation. I’m glad they worked it out. Congrats to Cruz on the big contract and good move by the Giants to sign a fan favorite and Eli favorite.

Maybe he can stop doing those insanely-bad Time Warner Cable ads with Bill Cowher. Good thing you catch most of the time Victor, because your acting skills are non-existent.

save your money cruz. I hope you do then you can relax with the family at 35-40 whenever your career is over.

6 years 66 million is what he wanted 6 yrs 46 mil is what he gets. a fair deal for both team and player if you can consider about 8 mil a year cheap wow!!

  12. cwill99 says: Jul 8, 2013 1:42 PM

7.6 a year is why Reese is the best GM in the league! 2 SBs since he took over in 2007! He definitely left money for Nicks and JPP’s future contracts. Go Giants!!!

  13. sarcasm says: Jul 8, 2013 1:43 PM

    Good news for all involved.

  14. dominicthedonkey says: Jul 8, 2013 1:43 PM

Cruz & Hakeem are one of the best duos in the league. Together for a few more years.

  15. nonetruerthanblue says: Jul 8, 2013 1:43 PM

    Well, short??

He wanted 10 – 11 mil and he’s getting 9.2 mil with almost 16 in guarantees.

A whole heck of a lot better than the 7 mil the G-Men originally offered.

    I didn’t major in math, but that isn’t bad…

  16. lbpackfan says: Jul 8, 2013 1:44 PM

So, Greg Jennings is making more / guaranteed more with the Vikings than Cruz is with Giants????

  17. bubbybrister/shovelpass says: Jul 8, 2013 1:46 PM

Dan Conner, Aaron Ross and Victor Cruz…

WOW! What an off-season Reese has had!

  18. cjsauby says: Jul 8, 2013 1:53 PM

If he had said the old cliché line “I am just trying to feed my family”, I would have thrown up and rooted against him for the rest of his career.

Not sure how you got to a $9.2 mil average. It’s a 5-year extension worth $43 mil. That comes out to $8.6 mil/year of the extension. Not only that, Jerry Reese got him to play this coming season at the RFA tender. Basically, Cruz has a 6-year $46 mil contract. That averages out to $7.6/year.

Based on actual math — not a match major either, but I know how to use a calculator — I’d say that’s pretty short of the $10-$11 mil/year he was looking to get.

Lead off with Nicks, Cruz, Myers and Randle with Wilson in the backfield? I would suspect Eli will take that. GO BLUE.

  21. psuorioles says: Jul 8, 2013 1:55 PM

Big fan of Cruz… goes to show that hard work will pay off. Good for him.

Somewhere out there Jared Allen read this article and kicked his dog…

  23. twilson962 says: Jul 8, 2013 1:56 PM

    RE: lbpackfan,

Goes to show how desperate & stupid the Vikes are. They’ve got an aging receiver to go with a craptastic QB… Talk about throwing good money after bad.

  24. americasteamthenewyorkfootballgiants says: Jul 8, 2013 1:58 PM

Great Deal for the GMEN and Cruz. Jerry Reese wasnt going to overpay for VC and didnt. IN JERRY WE TRUST

  25. baddegg says: Jul 8, 2013 2:00 PM

Good thing the Giants got that extra cap money from the Redskins…

  26. catfish252 says: Jul 8, 2013 2:01 PM

Happy for you Victor, well deserved and I for one am glad you will be a Giant for the next 5 years, hopefully for your career.

  27. mjzaky says: Jul 8, 2013 2:06 PM

Smart deal by a championship organization and an equally smart move by Cruz in agreeing to it. He can supplement that 7.6/mil annual with TV/marketing deals that have come and will continue to come with being a fan favorite in NYC as well as being Latino in a city with a big Latino population.

  28. ccjcsr says: Jul 8, 2013 2:14 PM

Weren’t they up against the cap? I guess this deal opens up some room, doesn’t matter still going to be 3rd in the NFC Beast this year!

  29. kd75 says: Jul 8, 2013 2:19 PM

If Cruz has a smart money guy and doesn’t get injured and fall off a cliff, he is set for life. As is his daughter.

I can put him in touch with my money guy, he’s good. But I’ll bet that Jay-Z can make Cruz more $$$ off the field than he ever makes on it. He’s on every single TV channel here pimping Time Warner and I HATE being a slave to TW and can’t get FiOS for some reason.

I’m just glad to have him wrapped up. I might buy his jersey now.

  30. fafaflunky says: Jul 8, 2013 2:20 PM

they all bust once they get paid

  31. nodaksportsfan says: Jul 8, 2013 2:22 PM

Now just don’t kill anyone and you should be good! Congrats to him all his hard work paid off!

  32. weaponx73 says: Jul 8, 2013 2:23 PM

Was always going to be happy with a Cruz extension. But at these numbers I am estatic!

  33. bucnblood says: Jul 8, 2013 2:27 PM

Now Victor can take his own “Sea Cruz”.

  34. dwarftosser says: Jul 8, 2013 2:30 PM

About 8 mil a year? Considering what Wallace and Jennings were able to get I guess it’s a pretty fair deal for both sides..

  35. cdwains says: Jul 8, 2013 2:41 PM

WOW what a terrible deal for Cruz and an amazing deal for the Giants. Hopefully the Bengals will be able to get the same kind of deal with AJ Green (never gonna happen).

  36. youarejealousof6rings says: Jul 8, 2013 2:52 PM

I reported this earlier (I said 42 mil), but it was deleted.

  39. edithpiaf51 says: Jul 8, 2013 3:10 PM

Im glad the Giants signed Cruz and it is great for Eli, but I think he was greedy, but the Giants are a class act.

  40. ottomanismydog says: Jul 8, 2013 3:15 PM

This is the Mike Wallace should of received instead there are stupid owners who will pay much more than the talent is worth

  41. hpeters77 says: Jul 8, 2013 11:47 PM

Now just dont shoot anyone and you’ll be ok

  42. bookofelisha10 says: Jul 8, 2013 11:51 PM
