Still some free agents Ravens are “in love with”

John Harbaugh AP

The Ravens have been busy this offseason, changing the face of their defense, signing their quarterback to a monster contract and getting rid of several name veterans.

And they may not be finished making changes.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh told the team’s official website more additions could be coming with training camp approaching.

“There are still players who are out there unsigned, and we’re in love with, so personnel-wise, yeah,” Harbaugh said.

Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome has said he’d consider adding a veteran wide receiver. And the Ravens have made an offer to bring fullback Vonta Leach back, but he’s still making up his mind.

Adding someone such as wideout Brandon Lloyd (who caught 74 passes last year) might make sense for a team that lacks a true No. 2 receiver. But Lloyd’s still unemployed in July for a reason (he just turned 32), so it’s not as if the Ravens are competing for his affections with many others.

If you’re really in love with them, why don’t you sign them? If you’re not worried they might sign with somebody else, what do you love about them that everyone else doesn’t see?

Exactly what I was thinking Rick

The Ravens don’t want Lloyd. He’s another outside receiver which we already have in Torrey and Jacoby. They’d need a slot guy. Who? I’m unsure.

Rick and obmig, the Ravens do this every year. They wait as long as possible to sign these type of free agents. Some years they’re contributors, and some years they’re non-factors. But this is the Ravens MO.

The Ravens always go with “right player, right price.” So maybe they love the right players, but those players are not yet at the right price.

But, maybe you’re right and Harbaugh is just blowing smoke. Certainly wouldn’t surprise me.

    Aaron Hernandez.

Any coach and GM are thinking the same thing. They all see players available they really like but don’t want to pay the current asking price (e.g., Leach). It was only John’s choice of words that made it worthy of reporting in the slow season.

By the way, keep up the AH reporting. With the new documents available and the story coming together its like we’re watching a legal thriller movie going into the climax.

4 10 It fits their killer MO…..the price is all they need to settle on and it’s a go. The ravens will love his killer instincts..reminds them of Ray.

No matter who the Ravens find they aren’t going to find another Boldin. They will miss him.

I hear that John Harbaugh would just love the chance to reunite with T.O. He could get him on the cheap too!

    Steeler fans love the offseason
There team is still in it
Gonna be another long season boys
    The slide continues
First losing to Tebow in first round
    Then missing the playoffs
    This year will be comical
They might be the worst O in the league
Injury prone QB, no RBs and WRs decent at best
Better hope your D plays like the steel curtain
    Hahahaha

Another thing the Ravens do is that they wait for veterans to get cut during training camp and preseason. Right price is someone looking for meal money.

I am shocked by the response to what is normally posted on the steeler thread by the lead Raven troll. I posted it to get you guys pissed at something very outrageous so now you know why I say stay on topic. I don’t believe any of what I posted is true and seriously scoobie if I hurt your feelings I apologize. Now you know what steeler fans get every post….not pretty is it?

Ravens have all other teams filled with envy.

  20. Joemontanaflacco says: Jul 10, 2013 6:28 PM

Right now, Ravens have all the weapons they need to turn that sad Steelers secondary into mash potatoes. But with Broncos, Patriots, Packers, Texans, and Bengals (aka “real” teams) on the schedule, another receiver would be nice. Plus, it’ll be fun to see Troy huffing and puffing all over the field as the world sees what draft blunders both Jarvis and Shamarko turn out to be.

  21. scoobies05 says: Jul 10, 2013 6:55 PM

i accept your apology because i believe you are being sincere. but you do realize it goes both ways. a steeler troll actually posted a neg comment on the story about the cheerleader who passed away. you and crown paid your respects and i complimented you both. but as i said you do know it goes both ways. so apology accepted and lets move on to the next topic

Why do Ravens fans have to start their posts with blasts at the Steelers when the article has nothing to do with the Steelers? Troll much?
Oh and BTW……all of these new weapons added by the Ravens are all on defense so please enlighten us as to how that will make the Steelers secondary into mashed (not mash) potatoes.

You got me. I sincerely apologize. Let me rephrase. Right now, Ravens have all the weapons they need to turn that sad Steelers secondary into mashED potatoes.

    Better?

Not better yet. Keep up the visits with your professional help…obsessions can be cured. I feel sorry that you are filled with so much hate. Well adjusted people don’t have that problem..get well soon. Maybe you can lose 45 lbs above the shoulders….

McKinnie was a guy they got late. Houshmanzadeh was signed about a week before the season started and wound up being a serviceable receiver, though not spectacular. Ozzie will wait until after some of these veterans get cut by their respective teams. They can’t say they like another guy on someone else’s roster with the tampering rules, but I’m sure every team has someone they covet.

  26. jtbsteeler says: Jul 11, 2013 4:23 PM

Ozzie loves FA’s and trading for players. His drafts are weak.

  27. scoobies05 says: Jul 13, 2013 10:09 AM

Flacco, Rice, Pierce, Oher, T Smith, Yanda, Pitta, Dickson, Osemilie, Suggs, Ngata, J Smith, Webb, Koch, Tucker, plus all of this years class. Yeah JB…keep telling yourself thats weak. Maybe that will help you forget the Steelers whent 8-8 last year and missed the playoffs

  28. lagg1 says: Jul 16, 2013 5:55 AM

If the Ravens miss Boldin it will be because of his competiveness not his ability to get open. It is true that Boldin has the advantage versus most linebackers but against corners not so sure. Boldin never had speed-he was adequate. You risk interception with a receiver like that. In the Demver playoff game there where 3 instances where he was targeted that almost resulted in picks. He does not get separation hence Flacco must throw in tighter windows. Where he excels is his ability to fight for the ball. It will be interesting to see how Q delivers in the NFC West where some of the best cornerbacks in the league reside-Sherman, Browner, Peterson, and Janoris Jenkins.
