Collie still interests 49ers, but they want to wait

AP

The 49ers worked out wide receiver Austin Collie in June, but they want to get through July and August before they consider bringing him in.

According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the 49ers still have interest in the often-injured wideout, but they want to see some of their own young receivers in camp and the preseason before they make a move.

The 49ers used a first-rounder last year on wide receiver A.J. Jenkins, only to effectively redshirt him, and have a number of other unproven candidates to replace the injured Michael Crabtree.

Collie had also worked out for the Patriots since being released by the Colts.

  1. We arent going to be able to replace a guy like Crabtree. Signing Collie isnt much different than giving Jenkins, Patton or Lockette a shot and they are younger and faster. We will be fine without Crabs because we run the ball so well with our dominant O-Line and our dynamic all star playmaking QB!

Really if you look at our team we have the most solid roster in the NFL! Maybe another playmaking WR would be nice but i think one of these guys is going to step up and suprise everyone. We have Boldin and Manningham on the outside with Williams in the slot and he is explosive! Then we have young talent with Jenkins, Patton and Lockette who might take over for Manningham and Williams. Its going to be fun to watch because a star is going to emerge!!

  2. Keep your head down and your chin strap tight, and go make that money kid! Stem cell-research is making great strides in post-concussion syndrome treatment and if that doesn’t work, you can always sue the NFL.

We call that win-win in the legal biz!

  3. This guy is special when he is healthy, hopefully he stays healthy for a whole season he has the potential to be a top 10 receiver in the NFL.

  4. seattles roster is far better. look at your wr’s … you have a glaring weakness that youre trying to fill with castaways and injury prone bums.
p.s. please let the arrogant muscle smooching dolphin hat wearing Pinocchio of a qb play a full season before you guys dub him joe montana.

  5. Presumably if Collie does sign for the 49ers, it’ll then be called “an inspired move” and he’ll automatically be referred to as a “stud WR” from that point onwards.

  6. Does this guy have a death wish? The league safety commission will step in and prevent him from going up against the Leigon of Boom twice a year with his condition. #Go Hawks

  7. Haha, a seadderal cheathawk fan spewing about signing an oft injured player when they signed a guy that misses time every year due to headaches…that’s just awesome.

*Just like you guys are crowning Russel Wilson the next fran tarkenton? haha Seattle fans are ridiculous

  10. Collie is fool’s gold. Even on the cheap, I’m not interested. Between Jenkins, Patton, and Lockette, at least one of them should emerge as a solid option as a #3 if not #2 receiver.

Hopefully Manningham and KW will be fully recovered from their injuries; I think they’re both a little underrated.

  11. No one should sign this kid. It has nothing to do with his talent or ability. Unless he’s going to Dr Nick, no one should be clearing this guy to get back on the field. One more concussion and he’s looking at becoming a vegetable. Save him from himself.

  12. The Seadderall She-talks fans run their mouth a lot for having ZERO Super Bowls under their skirts. Their fans emulate their players…classless, reckless and pill popping perennial losers.
