Donte Whitner: Kaepernick will get flak from teammates for posing nude

Colin Kaepernick AP

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick recently riled up some folks by being photographed while wearing a Dolphins cap and now he may be in for some razzing in his own locker room for wearing nothing at all.

During an appearance on the Bull and Fox Show on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, via CBSSports.com, 49ers safety Donte Whitner was asked about Kaepernick’s decision to pose in the altogether for ESPN the Magazine‘s Body Issue. Whitner said that he wouldn’t show the full monty and that Kaepernick’s choice to do so will be met with some razzing in the team’s locker room when everyone gathers for 49ers training camp.

“He’s the man right now, and that’s what he chose to do,” Whitner said. “But he’s going to receive some flak in the locker room.”

Kaepernick doesn’t have much to be embarrassed about, but the nature of life in the locker room means that the photos are going to be fodder for jokes. It shouldn’t go much beyond that unless a picture surfaces of Kaepernick covering up any parts of himself with a Seahawks cap.

He’s gonna be catching much more flak this next year once he gets exposed and they miss the playoffs.

  6. captainwisdom8888 says: Jul 12, 2013 12:57 PM

Kap will gladly take the flak in the locker room, and probably steal Whitner’s girl in the process.

    Dude is a complete tool….

  8. tomcous says: Jul 12, 2013 1:01 PM

You mean he doesn’t take enough flak just from what they see in the locker-room …

I think Whitner needs to worry about his cover skills more than what is covering Kaep!

  9. daysend564 says: Jul 12, 2013 1:05 PM

Naked, all except for his Dolphins hat

  10. Kaz says: Jul 12, 2013 1:06 PM

At least he didn’t have a nude phone pic leaked by some groupie. This day and age with what some athletes do(show). ESPN body is nothing.

  11. tacowrecker says: Jul 12, 2013 1:11 PM

His teammates are probably going to keep trying to slip ones and fives into his jock strap

  12. micknangold says: Jul 12, 2013 1:12 PM

@tomcous: Yeah, joking about CK getting naked in front of a camera is keeping him from realizing his potential.

  15. thegreatgabbert says: Jul 12, 2013 1:26 PM

They suggested he cover any offensive or embarrassing parts of his body with a cap. So he pulled it right down over his face.

And you think about “crank’s” all day don’t you…c’mon all you guys need to chill out, he’s not doing YOU any harm, leave the kid alone and stop being haters..because the jealous hate, the rest of us..don’t give a $#@= lol

  17. ozymandias121 says: Jul 12, 2013 1:35 PM

Kaep is the future of the NFL. Keep denying it but all the naysayers know deep down that this will be true. And they are terrified of it.

Hey look at that. Regurgitated drivel from last year except with Kaep’s name in place for Alex Smith. Hate to break your poor whittle heart but it ain’t happenin just like it didn’t happen last year. The team likely to pull the flop lile the lions did from 2011 to last year will be the anointed pre season champ seahawks. There’s a ton of pressure to perform now. They won’t be sneaking up on anyone and the league is onto their juicing habits

    Strange times we live in.

  20. surfinbird1 says: Jul 12, 2013 1:44 PM

Damn, I thought he might model some of those Chinese Levis jeans, but to show off Mr. Winkie is a little much. Unless that’s the new face of the franchise.

  21. schmitty2 says: Jul 12, 2013 1:49 PM

The only flak should be given to Whitner and his coverage skills or lack thereof. Most Niner fans would agree.

  22. thegreatgabbert says: Jul 12, 2013 1:50 PM

If the size of that honker on the front of his face is any indication, he’s going to need a boat sail to cover his package.

  23. irishgary says: Jul 12, 2013 1:58 PM

    One year wonder.

  24. rickrock6661982 says: Jul 12, 2013 2:01 PM

He should get more flak for his desire to play in Miami while under contract.

Just another sign that Harbaugh is wearing thin.

Honestly, I have nothing against the guy as an athlete, but it’s impossible to deny he’s a little bit screwy. Even putting this and the dolphins hat aside, the fact that he got enormous new tattoos to commemorate losing a Super Bowl really says a lot.

And that’s not to wish him harm, or say he won’t succeed; just that Walter Payton/Reggie White/Drew Brees/Robert Griffin, he is not.

  28. pop562 says: Jul 12, 2013 2:21 PM

To get that much attention and hate for a guy that barely played a full season shows how great Colin Kaep is. He hasn’t even showed his full potential. You guys are going to hate him even more when he makes your team look like pop warner.

  29. jda129 says: Jul 12, 2013 2:30 PM

Only offseason QB sack you’ll see.

  30. tennesseeoilers says: Jul 12, 2013 2:37 PM

I was impressed with the way Kaep conducted himself last season. Seemed very mature and level headed. However, I’m starting to rethink that. One appearance in a Super Bowl and he’s suddenly going Hollywood? This past week, he’s been acting more like a young Matt Leinert or Reggie Bush than the Kaepernick I was growing to respect.

  31. 23chameleons says: Jul 12, 2013 2:52 PM

Dude is 6’4″ and 230 lbs. Who called him a “skinny turd” ?

He’s got the skills to continue the tradition of redefining the QB position. He’s flat out fast and shifty runner. He’s got a pitcher’s arm from, not surprisingly, being a pitcher (and was drafted for that too). I think he’s got a LOT working in his favor including a GM that keeps loading up on talent around him, a coach that can reel him in when needed and an offensive coordinator that undertands his skill set. I’m not heading up his fan club by any means, but a lot would have to go wrong for this guy to not be successful. And by all accounts, he has the desire and work ethic to make it happen.

  32. themackstrong says: Jul 12, 2013 2:55 PM

I am still laughing about him and Vernon Davis naked for ESPN. You can’t make this stuff up…I mean even his teammates will be clowning this Sanchez 2.0

  33. raiderrob21 says: Jul 12, 2013 3:03 PM

Hes started at QB for just over a half year. It seems to me hes enjoying the attention a little too much. Its OK to not accept EVERY opportunity to draw attention to yourself. Just sayin…

When they found out he was rich and famous Capernick’s birth parents wanted a reconciliation. But they’ve subsequently changed their minds.

  38. offthelows says: Jul 12, 2013 3:27 PM

I’d rather hear what he had to say about the Ahmad Brooks situation though…

  39. swaggyy says: Jul 12, 2013 3:31 PM

Keep getting your muscles bigger, wearing dolphins hats, tats, and posing nude for magazines colin. Russell Wilson will keep studying film and throwing with his team mates.

  42. tennesseeoilers says: Jul 12, 2013 3:51 PM

Until this week, NFL insiders have been saying that Kaepernick, RGIII, and Russell Wilson have a lot in common both on and off the field. … Now, Kaep is setting himself apart OFF he field.

Not sure it’s in a good way.

  43. followme2boston says: Jul 12, 2013 3:52 PM

It is great that Whitner and Kap have in common that they were both recently seen by millions out of their jocks. The only problem is that Whitner was faked out of his jock during the Superbowl.

Gronk had the smiley face last year :) This is an issue about beautiful bodies. I’m not a tat person, but, he’s has a great body. Admit it, all you men making fun of him… you’d flaunt your body if it looked like that! Then again, I know a bunch of 40 year old guys that love to flaunt their bodies, just look at all the pics on facebook. They don’t have 6 pack abs… more like kegs. Don’t be jealous boys, I’m sure you all have great personalities.

Now, do you gents object to the women posing in that mag? Hmmm… I hear crickets.

  48. deelron says: Jul 12, 2013 4:56 PM

This group has nothing to do with football ability, it has to do with the kind of guy you want to see your daughter dating.

Like it or not; like him or not, Griffin has been a model citizen and great sportsman since he enrolled at Baylor. While we can wait another season for judgments on talent, we have enough of a sample size to conclude that he is already one of the league’s class acts.
