Pouncey twins apparently show their support for Hernandez

Pounceys

Less than two weeks after a Dolphins hat raised an unexpected stink for Colin Kaepernick, a Dolphin wearing a different kind of hat could be creating another.

Via Deadspin, a photo of what appears to be Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey and Dolphins center Mike Pouncey wearing “Free Hernandez” hats has surfaced on the Internet.

Both men played with Aaron Hernandez at the University of Florida.  Both have had their names come up in connection with the unsolved September 2007 shooting that may or may not have involved Hernandez.

So the list of public Hernandez supporters apparently is now up to five:  Deion Branch, Snoop Dogg, the ACLU, and the Pouncey twins.

A league source has confirmed conclusively that it’s the Pouncey twins in the photo.  There’s still a chance (small as it may be) that the messages on the hats were digitally altered.

It the pics were not altered, both are clowns…..from a die hard steeler fan.

  2. jagwires says: Jul 14, 2013 10:49 AM

Who cares? Free speech. What people wear on their heads will have no impact on Hernandez’s future.

  3. commonsensedude says: Jul 14, 2013 10:52 AM

Hernandez is still popular among a small group of people whom he has not yet murdered.

  4. fitzmagic1212 says: Jul 14, 2013 10:54 AM

It’s like these guys never learn common sense growing up. Idiots

  5. rtk23 says: Jul 14, 2013 10:54 AM

Hopefully these 2 nimrods will be connected to the 2007 murder and join their good buddy in the big house.

  6. FinFan68 says: Jul 14, 2013 10:54 AM

It’s understandable to support a friend but this just seems a bit dumb and will no doubt lead to more questions concerning their involvement in the 2007 shooting.

  7. shawon0meter says: Jul 14, 2013 10:54 AM

Maybe they think Hernandez is just an innocent self-appointed neighborhood watchman.

  8. abusementland says: Jul 14, 2013 10:55 AM

There is such thing as supporting your boy, and just being morons.

These guys are just being morons. How can freeing a man suspected of murder be something you could get behind?

  9. cubano76 says: Jul 14, 2013 10:55 AM

    Real classy there guys. #dumbumbs

  10. tdubdizzle says: Jul 14, 2013 10:57 AM

I’ve never understood the whole “Free my friend” thing…If your friend did something wrong he deserves the same punishment as everyone else.

  11. beattention says: Jul 14, 2013 11:03 AM

Some are willing to forgive anything for a friend.

  12. lgbarn says: Jul 14, 2013 11:05 AM

Just goes to prove that just because you make a lot of money, doesn’t mean you make smart decisions.

  13. ajferraro says: Jul 14, 2013 11:10 AM

“Free Hernandez” ?…What is he some kind of a political prisoner?

The guy allegedly put a couple bullets in some guys back, and historically seems to always pop up where a gun goes off. At a minimum he is a bad dude, at worst he is a homicidal maniac. Yet these two characters are comparing his current situation to who? … Nelson Mandela? Do they know the difference?

I just don’t understand these athletes today.

  14. leopardjferry says: Jul 14, 2013 11:14 AM

I’m getting close to being done with the NFL. …

  15. thesportsguru7 says: Jul 14, 2013 11:15 AM

These days it seems more and more, NFL players receive their jersey number based off of their IQ. I’m surprised the Pouncey’s don’t both wear single digit numbers.

  16. halftermguv says: Jul 14, 2013 11:16 AM

Another example of why pro football players are considered less than the brightest.

To think that loyality for a former teammate trumps homicide charges is plain idiotic. There are reports of DNA links to the crime and these guys wear hats in support?

I’m a lifelong Steelers fan. Somebody needs to read Pouncey the riot act. CLASSLESS

  17. blackngold4life says: Jul 14, 2013 11:29 AM

    Really Really bad choice

  18. remyje says: Jul 14, 2013 11:30 AM

is that the godfather in between them in the picture?

  19. reprob8 says: Jul 14, 2013 11:36 AM

classless & stupid? yes! for their sake, I hope nothing comes of their possible ties to the earlier crime…otherwise, being classless & stupid aren’t crimes.

besides, since when have we started to assume that physical talent and big pay checks equate to maturity & sound judgment?

  20. poiuyt7 says: Jul 14, 2013 11:40 AM

Yeah, that’s what I’d like for a character endorsement — a couple of guys flashing gang signs. Just as effective as a reference from the local Rotary Club.

  21. uwsptke says: Jul 14, 2013 11:41 AM

Were they conjoined at the head and the doctor had to give each twin half a brain?

  22. cwt123 says: Jul 14, 2013 11:42 AM

I have just lost all respect for these two clowns.

  23. dumbjockslol says: Jul 14, 2013 11:43 AM

Please Mike Tomlin, talk some sense to this dude

  24. mymanmccoy says: Jul 14, 2013 11:47 AM

In other news, they have their “free OJ” tee shirts on underneath what they are currently wearing.

  25. httr28 says: Jul 14, 2013 11:48 AM

In a stunning upset from a late entry, Colin Kaepernick will not be winning the Dumbest Hat Choice in July after all.

  26. grumpyoleman says: Jul 14, 2013 11:53 AM

Hope they lose any endorsement deals they have

  27. bchapman2011 says: Jul 14, 2013 12:05 PM

Sometimes it is hard to fathom how stupid certain people are. That is really all I have to say about the matter……WOW

  28. crosberger says: Jul 14, 2013 12:10 PM

First pouncy vouches for Chris Rainey, now he wears this totally inappropriate hat. I have serious questions about his character. Which sucks, given the guy was portrayed as the next Mike Webster/Dermotti Dawson. I am not feeling like a proud Steeler fan right now

  29. iammrbinky says: Jul 14, 2013 12:21 PM

As a die hard Dolphins fan I am deeply disappointed.

  30. dbones750 says: Jul 14, 2013 12:26 PM

That’s stupid. These guys haven’t gotten their $40 mil contracts yet. If I were their team, I’d be taking an extra hard look at their lives outside of football before giving them a fat payday.

  31. nivekred says: Jul 14, 2013 12:28 PM

Lost any respect I had for these two gentleman, and I am a Steelers Fan!

  32. danpit2 says: Jul 14, 2013 12:45 PM

If the pic is real, I hate to admit, I’m embarrassed to be a steelers fan

  33. YouMadCauseImStylingOnYou says: Jul 14, 2013 1:07 PM

Did these two geniuses also attend Urban Meyers bible study extravaganzas?

  34. tacowrecker says: Jul 14, 2013 1:27 PM

People are always clamoring for an opportunity to meet an NFL player, get an autograph etc. but more and more it seems like none of these guys are worth meeting.

  35. gbmickey says: Jul 14, 2013 1:50 PM

With the ignorant tweets after the Zimmerman trial and this picture, the NFL must be so proud with the lack of character of these men representing the league. The same goes for the universities who should be emabarrassed with the so called education the players receive. Can these playersbe any more ignorant?

  36. thegreatgabbert says: Jul 14, 2013 1:58 PM

Not sure about the hats, but someone needs to look into digitally altering the rest of the clothes they are wearing.

  37. eaglefan94 says: Jul 14, 2013 2:09 PM

Who cares? Free speech. What people wear on their heads will have no impact on Hernandez’s future.

As a Fins fan, I just want to know when will fins fans be allowed to trade in Pouncey jerseys–I would settle for a old Teddy Ginn jersey. Since the Pouncey twins feel so strongly about AH they should be allowed to spend their off-season with him. When AH hits gen population they should really be there to help “FREE” him from Big Jon and the rest of the boys.

  39. expertop says: Jul 14, 2013 2:23 PM

Hard to believe, but I agree with a comment by gbmickey. The hats are different than Brandon Lloyd’s support. Lloyd was expressing some basic human compassion. These idiots apparently went to the trouble of getting these idiotic hats made, then are eager to be seen grinning and getting their pictures taken, as if it’s cool.

They deserve whatever consequences they get.

  40. expertop says: Jul 14, 2013 2:24 PM

    Deion Branch.

  41. stew48 says: Jul 14, 2013 2:27 PM

Another Steeler fan here. If the picture is a legit picture, then trade Pouncey NOW!

  42. iseek11 says: Jul 14, 2013 2:31 PM

Maybe the Steelers and Dolphins could offer jersey exchanges for these clowns. Only seems fitting since they identify with Hernandez so much.

  43. richc111 says: Jul 14, 2013 3:16 PM

Well Roddy White and Victor Cruz must be appalled at this action! Free a man that killed a man. I will wait next to twitter for White and Cruz’s respnse. They must be so angry now they won’t hold back.

  44. lanman11 says: Jul 14, 2013 4:33 PM

The line of fans from other teams waiting to pile on the Patriots is getting shorter and shorter. What a crazy off season…. Where are these guys coming from?

  45. bunjy96 says: Jul 14, 2013 4:35 PM

Wanna bet the Pouncey twins don’t apologize.

  46. mysonzdad says: Jul 14, 2013 4:41 PM

I guess their ‘OJ’s Guilty’ hats were at the dry cleaners

  47. mercurialice says: Jul 14, 2013 4:47 PM

As Americans, the Pouncey simpletons have freedom of expression. Sadly, signing lucrative NFL contracts providing wealth beyond what most of us can imagine has not assisted them in understanding that there are times you should not exercise that right…unless you wish to turn most people and (potentially) your organizations against you.

Free speech never goes without consequence. Why is that so hard to understand to those who always bring up the excuse of “Free Speech”. Grow out of your teen years already. America is like the teenager of the world. Everybody crying about themselves and how they were wronged.

  52. fishyinalittledishy says: Jul 14, 2013 6:39 PM

As a Dolphin fan the offseason was going so well until this. If this is a true photo Philbin has to have strong words and suspend Pouncey.

  53. mackcarrington says: Jul 14, 2013 7:12 PM

I wonder how much money these fools will be giving towards Hernandez’s legal defense. They need to put their money where their mouths are.

Okay all you fellow Steeler fans that all of a sudden have a problem with Maurkice Pouncey and all of a sudden embarrassed, were you embarrassed or still embarrassed by Big Ben’s drama in Milledgeville, GA a few years ago. Let’s wait to know all the details behind this before we jump to conclusions. And really you want to trade Pouncey as though some of you aren’t already bitching about the oline. Last time I checked he didn’t commit the crime and if you can support a player that was allegedly accused of rape what’s the problem with supporting Pouncey on the field even if you don’t agree with the photo off the field.

  55. dmartsd says: Jul 14, 2013 8:46 PM

Steelers’ fans should be proud of their distant past. But we live in the present and things are not looking good. When your fans urinate all over your stadium after two consecutive throwaway seasons led by a a scandal plagued QB and a gun toting felon WR, it’s time to start looking for Plan B. Just some friendly advice from a fan of the World Champions.
