NaVorro Bowman gives Kaepernick some friendly hat advice

On Tuesday, 49ers inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman appeared on NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access,” and the topic of Colin Kaepernick’s Miami Dolphins cap was broached.

NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest asked Bowman if he had indicated to Kaepernick that wearing another club’s hat wad disrespectful.

Here’s Bowman’s response, which he delivered with a smile:

“This is a huge mistake by Kap,” Bowman said, per a short video clip on NFL.com. “I am sure he understands that now. But in his defense, we’re young. In our era these days, we like to match our snapbacks with our outfits.”

After NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp joked about his outfit coordination, Bowman continued with his answer.

Again, he did it in a friendly tone.

“The hats now these days are very important to the outfits, man,” Bowman said. “Kap, I understand what you did, but let’s stay away from the NFL teams. Go to the NBA, go to college or the baseball hats.”

Sapp then asked Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, another guest panelist Tuesday, for his take on sticking to hats from other sports.

“That’s the rule, for the most part, to stay out of conversations like this,” Smith said as the panel laughed.

  1. I think the hat issue is less of an issue than having a teammate speak behind your back and do articles about you that suggest you are doing things the wrong way rather than talk to you privately like a man. Don’t air your dirty laundry and complaints and gripes through the public media unless you have a really good reason for doing so, and I don’t see it here.

My advice to Kaep is to go to the GM and suggest trading Bowman for an additional offensive player. Or a defensive player that won’t go out of his way to trash him. Maybe NaVorro shows up for work one day and sees a very polite Thank You card on his locker that concludes with Good Luck on your next endeavor, aren’t we polite?

  2. Kapernick wanted to wear the Dolphins hate to match his snapback to his out fit. Well, Kap, you might want to know that the Seahawks have a cap that looks almost identical to the Dolphins hat. You can wear it anytime and your snapbacks and outfits will look great! Go ahead, Kap, put that ‘Hawks hat on.

  3. It is amazing the traction you guys continue to give this story. This has got to be the 10th story now. Is it really that titillating? C’mon training camp! Lol

  4. OK, I’m a Seahawks fan and I’m getting tired of this story. He’s young, he made a mistake, can we play football now?

  5. Wearing a dolphins hat is just like wearing a hat to support a guy that kills people. Thanks warren now let’s talk about your bankruptcy.

  6. How many more years before “men” are wearing makeup too? The whole metrosexual, over grooming, and primping like a girl is getting annoying.

  7. So this is a story but the picture that Kaepernick posted of Russell Wilson doing Kaepernicks “bicep kiss” celebration while they played Madden football ISN’T? Why not blow that story out of proportion since Wilson is obviously paying tribute to his “rival” quarterback. Media…not even once.

  8. When throwback jerseys were popular circa 2004, many NBA players would wear the jersey of the team they were about to face to the arena. I don’t see the bug deal here. The Dolphinas are not a 9ers rival nor would they ever have a bearing on the success of the 49ers outside of the .002 probability that they meet in the Super Bowl at some point in the next 4 years

  9. You dont work for Microsoft and own an iPhone, you dont work for McDonald’s and rock the BK crown, and you dont work for Verizon and own an AT&T phone….ya dig?

  10. I am a big time 49er fan and I think Kap is going to be a great QB. However, I am getting a bit tired of all of his off season BS. I don’t see Russell Wilson getting into sorties like, the Hat and having naked pictures taken of him. It’s just a bit disappointing to have the “leader” of our team being such an ass.
