Texans schedule Patriots for homecoming

Texans.Letter.Jackets-300x225

Maybe the Texans just want the Patriots to get angry and thrash them.

Last year, the Texans got all riled up and wore their fancy new letter jackets to New England, and promptly took a 42-14 beating.

Now, they’re trying to double down on motivational fodder by scheduling the Patriots for homecoming.

The Texans announced themes for each of their home games on the team’s official website, most of them designed to honor someone or a charity or fan appreciation day or some such.

Their Dec. 1 game against the Patriots is listed simply as “Homecoming.”

There’s no word on whether there will be a dance afterward, or if they were unable to schedule Prairie View A&M. Or whether someone in the marketing department realizes how easy that makes the pre-game motivation for the opponent.

Houston Texans = A severe case of Patriot envy.

Most ignorant fan base in the NFL. That team hasn’t done crap but waste the career of Andre Johnson.

Another year, another overrated and underperforming tinhorns team. I love you Gary Kubiak.

Big year for these guys. You either play like you’re ready to run with the Big Dogs (Broncs, Pats, Ravens) or you’ll be stuck running with the second tier.
Not getting waxed (twice) by the Patriots would be a great start.

  7. flash1283 says: Jul 16, 2013 1:07 PM

If they still have Wade Phillips in charge of there D it will be another easy victory for the Patriots.

Hey, go EZ on my alma mater PV A&M. We have more championships than the Texans do. However, isn’t it ez to see how this is a bad idea? Why not call the Patriot game “military appreciation day” or something? Marketing really blew this one. Expect the Pats to play this up internally, the media to play it up outwardly and the Pats to probably get a win as much as I would hate it. Not smart.

Is there a prom after the game ?

What’s the homecoming theme this year? Hope the guys have asked their dates and have the corsages on order.

That’s the day all charges will be dropped for Aaron Hernandez and he will run on to the field after halftime and promptly catch 3 td’s and go over 150 yards receiving. #homecoming

Really looking forward to the Texans Homecoming parade. I hope there’s a Warren Moon float and maybe one of those Chinese dragon things. With this kind of pomp JJ Watt is in for another triple digit sack performance against the Patriots this year.

  16. u4iadman says: Jul 16, 2013 1:27 PM

First, the jackets are hideous looking.
Second, shut up and prove it on the field, then you can talk.
Third, tired of the Pats already.

Not sure what the fan base has to do with the front office labeling a game as “Homecoming”

Don’t know why everyone thinks the patriots will win so handedly, there is the whole “one of their top receivers has murder charges against him.” And they haven’t one anything since “they were caught cheating”.

It’s as if they’re doubling down on a bad idea…and certainly a bad outcome…from last season. You’d think they play would be to step away from that. Instead they’re looking to embrace it all over again.
    Good luck.

  24. mrwalterisgod says: Jul 16, 2013 1:59 PM

what a bunch of posers. They’ve gotten lucky and played one of the worst QB’s in the playoffs each of the last two years (Andy Dalton and his 3-14 record against winning teams). Schaub is overrated and that team as a whole is overrated.

You got destroyed on SNF by the Pack.

They have been to two Super Bowls since Spygate. My math tells me that’s two more than the Texans. On your wonderful grasp of the language, they haven’t “one” anything. They
“two” both games against the Texans last year though.

Poor Texans fans….they fail to realize and understand that the keys to their limited success these last two years has been Peyton Manning’s broken neck and Jeff Fisher leaving Tennessee.

The arrogance of the Texans is amazing…..even with the new found success with the collapse of the AFC South(Manning, Fisher leaving and Del Rio imploding the Jags) the Texans are sitting at 77-99 all time won loss record with 2 playoff victories against the Bengals…… the Bengals!!! they would still be sitting around 8-8 or 7-9 if the Division status quo had been maintained. They still only beat the Colts once. the Arrogance of the fans, media, the team PR people and the ownership makes the myth of Texan tall tales into a reality!!

You know the Texans beat the Ravens by 4 TDs and a safety last year right….(30 for those of you who can’t add)? Ravens had a magical run at the end of the season, but I’m not positive the Ravens beat the Texans in Houston had the Texans beaten NE…

“Texans beat 2 out of 3 of those teams last year…. And won more playoff games than the Broncos last year….”

What’s your point exactly? The Texans Super Bowl was a beat-down of an injury ridden Ravens team with offensive identity issues early in the season. I’ll speak for the Ravens and their fans when I say you can have that game, we’ll take the Lombardi. Speaking of which, those other teams you mentioned have titles as well. I would wait till the Texans get there’s before talking..

  37. texaned80 says: Jul 16, 2013 3:36 PM

I’ve read every one of these comments and this is absolutely hilarious! Who cares the Texas want to call the game homecoming. I’m pretty sure none of the players or coaching staff had anything to do with that. The funny thing is its only called homecoming so they can bring back old Houston players an old Houston coachs as an honor to them because those guys refuse to be Tennessee Titans fans even though that’s the franchise they played otr coached for. They are Texans at heart and deserve a team to call their home team. I don’t think there’s anything lame about that. Raven fan, your team earned you the right to talk your smack. Still i advise you to savor the sweet taste of victory all that you can because next season wont be near as fulfilling. As for Pats fan, I don’t know if I would be puffing my chest out about anything right now. With 90% of your passing attack is either gone, laid up in a hospital bed, or in the jailhouse, even with the greatest quarterback of all time its still highly unlikely you make it to the Superbowl next year. and if by some miracle you do, you just better hope you don’t run into the New York Giants because we’ve all seen that song and dance one too many times.

  38. CKL says: Jul 16, 2013 3:41 PM

I’m a Pats fan who doesn’t mind the Texans. In fact I will root for them when the Pats aren’t involved in any way. And I’ll never forget how the fans showed a lot of class by giving WW a rousing cheer when he finally got up and hobbled off the field after destroying his ACL in Dec 09. And Bob McNair seems to be a cool owner and is friends with Robert Kraft.

This type of weird bravado with the homecoming game stuff just doesn’t seem to fit this franchise’s personality. It’s truly puzzling.

  42. texaned80 says: Jul 16, 2013 4:19 PM

I don’t get Patriots fan trying to call the Texans the product of a weak division. Which I might add produced two playoff teams last seaon. Tom Brady and the patriots have been a big fish in a small Afc East pond for a very long time. Name me all the great QBs Tom Brady has had to face as division foes in his career. Mark Sanchez?? You cant because there arent any. And if I remember correctly, when Peyton Manning was a Colt, he was a big fat thorn in your backside as well.

  43. ampats says: Jul 16, 2013 4:31 PM

No texaned80, the Texans have never seen that song and dance, not even one time since your team has only won two playoff games in the wild card rounds.

And your “homecoming” game for that team formerly in Houston also never did see “that song and dance”

    Uh, no!
A Brady led Patriots team is 8-4 vs PM colts team.
So no you don’t “remember correctly”

  45. texaned80 says: Jul 16, 2013 5:40 PM

No ampats, THE WHOLE WORLD watched the Patriots choke down the stretch in both those games. But that’s not the point Im trying to make with my comment. My point is by the Patriots standard they have been coming up short of their goal (which is to get at least one more Super Bowl win with Tom Brady before he starts to decline) year, after year, after year. Whereas up until last season no one ever talked about the Texans being Super Bowl contenders. The Houston Texans are a very young franchise and have a long way to go before they can even be talked about in the same breath as some of the great franchises in league when it comes to legacy. So for you to sit here and pat yourself on the back because your team’s accomplished more than they have really just seems asinine to me.

  46. texaned80 says: Jul 16, 2013 5:54 PM

Flash1283 do you remember the 2006 Afc Championship? Or are you going to over look that like you did my question? Who are the great quarterbacks Brady’s had to face in his division year in and year out over his career? ? and aside from the Patriots and the Texans what makes the AFC East so much more of a tougher division then the AFC South?

  47. graham1982 says: Jul 16, 2013 8:51 PM

Sooo. Which of these two teams will be the greater of the perennial contending, yet always overrated squads this year?

Im actually thinking the Texans will take this one. Patriots are going to be exposed this year, and, as much as I love that, its probably all we’ll here about untill the playoffs

  48. avoidtheboyd says: Jul 16, 2013 11:56 PM

Texans have a “homecoming” themed game every year (except last year) and it’s always around that late November/early December time. The choice has nothing to do with the Patriots.
