Dolphins CEO leaves for baseball job

After a turbulent offseason on and off the field, the Dolphins are now looking for someone to run the place.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Dolphins CEO Mike Dee is leaving the team, announcing that he’s taking the same job with baseball’s San Diego Padres.

Dee worked for the Padres and the Red Sox before joining the Dolphins.

“It’s a chance to return to my roots,” Dee said. “This is a great opportunity to run a team and a facility. It’s a chance to sail a ship I helped construct.”

Dee ran the business side of the Dolphins organization separate from General Manager Jeff Ireland’s football authority, and they’re looking for someone to do the same. They’ve already hired an executive search firm to help with that process.

While Dee might have done some good things there, he also presided over a failed attempt to secure public funding for upgrades to Sun Life Stadium, a failure that could knock Miami out of the Super Bowl rotation until that changes.
