Dolphins’ coordinator: I wouldn’t trade Cam Wake for anybody

Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle has offered up some very high praise for defensive end Cameron Wake.

In an interview with the team’s website, Coyle said there’s not a single player in the NFL he’d rather have on his defense than Wake, who had a career-high 15 sacks last season.

I wouldn’t trade Cam Wake for anybody in our league,” Coyle said.

That sounds like hyperbole. Would Coyle really not trade Wake for J.J. Watt, who is seven years younger than Wake, takes up less salary cap space than Wake and is coming off one of the best seasons that any defensive player has ever had in NFL history? That’s a little hard to believe.

But Coyle insists that there’s no better player than Wake for a coach to have.

“He’s a joy to coach,” Coyle said. “He works at it mentally, he’s strong against the run, dynamic pass rusher, intelligent football player, can cover guys when we do put him into coverage. He’s a guy that can run with backs, tight ends, shoot, he can run with some receivers out there. He’s a dynamic player, and we’re so fortunate to have him.”

The Dolphins would be very fortunate to get another 15-sack season from Wake this year.
