There were obviously many in Dallas surprised that defensive tackle Josh Brent was still on the Cowboys roster.

Now, just before training camp opens, that problem has taken care of itself.

According to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, Brent is retiring to focus on his off-field issues.

Of course, his short-term focus will be on his defense, as he’s awaiting trial on intoxication manslaughter charges for the wreck that claimed the life of teammate Jerry Brown.

His continued presence on the roster was a mystery to many, but it appears he’s decided to make the decision for them.
