Jets ditch plans to land helicopters at team facility

The New York Jets already are 0-1 in 2013.

Facing a July 22 hearing on an effort to install a helipad at the team’s Florham Park, New Jersey facility, the Jets have withdrawn the request, according to Justin Zaremba of NJ.com.

The Jets filed the application in May, sparking objection from Florham Park and Madison residents to the noise that would be created by helicopters taking off and landing there. An online petition produced hundreds of signatures in opposition to the proposal.

The request could be resubmitted in the future, since it was withdrawn “without prejudice” to the rights of the party requesting it. Until then, visitors will have to rappel from the aircraft to the ground.
