Kaepernick jersey becomes top seller

Even if it doesn’t come with a Dolphins hat, the jersey worn by 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has become the hottest seller for the NFL.

According to CNBC.com, Kaepernick has climbed to the top of the chart for the period covering April 1, 2013 through June 30, 2013.

Joining Kaepernick in the top two is another young NFC West quarterback — Russell Wilson of the Seahawks.

Robert Griffin III comes in at No. 3, followed by league MVP Adrian Peterson (whose Vikings have new jerseys this year) and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.

To start the bottom five, the Dolphins finally have beaten the Patriots at something.  Ryan Tannehill finished sixth; Tom Brady lands at No. 7.

Two of the last three are retired linebackers:  Ray Lewis at No. 8 and Brian Urlacher at No. 10.  They sandwiched Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is arguably the best player in the NFL but whose jersey isn’t deemed nearly as valuable.

No 2013 rookie cracked the top 10 for the quarter, underscoring the lack of star power in this year’s incoming draft class.  Players who could eventually emerge with jerseys that sell briskly include Bills quarterback EJ Manuel, Jets quarterback Geno Smith, Rams receiver Tavon Austin, Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert (the new Ochocinco in Cincinnati), Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, Bengals running back Giovani Bernard, Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell, and Patriots receiver Aaron Dobson (who likely won’t be switching to No. 81).

  1. There is obviously no accounting for taste among the band wagon, I have to wonder how many of these people will wear their colon punkernick jersey after the Frisco Baytown Boys get swept by two NFC west teams this year?

  2. Kaepernick, wearing sunglasses inside is pretty much telling the world you are a big tool.

  3. It’s not really a wonder. Look around the stands at Niner games, 3/4ths of the fans are still wearing Montana, Lott, or Rice jerseys. About time they started living in the now again.

  4. Given the type of people who fork over that kind of money for an ill fitting, unflattering garment with someone else’s name on it — I’m not surprised that they picked that screwball’s jersey.

  5. Kaepernick is the Michael Jordan of the NFL and I’m smh at Nike for not having the vision to buy that “Kaepernicking” logo and turn it into a franchise for shoes and athletic gear. The NFL has been waiting for a Jordan like figure. Randy Moss could have been but didnt have the charisma.

  6. I don’t understand how anyone can afford or justify paying $99.95 for an NLF jersey from the NFL shop, but I’d pay $75 for that red sport coat if Kaepernick will kick in the shade.

Does anyone believe the NFL isn’t making at least $90 profit per jersey. God, football fans are the biggest suckers on earth in some respects.

  7. I have 2 SF jerseys, Patrick Willis and a Lott throwback. Kaepernick needs to show he can perform over a longer period of time. Even then, once they extend him, the next jersey I would get would be Iupati.

  8. You would think the fans living near a seaside town like San Francisco would have easy access to all the fish wrap they could ever need.

  9. Wow. I’m not typically one to call people “haters”, but damn does that description fit some the responses to this thread. Kaep is a good kid who works his butt off to get better yet all anyone can post about is his clothes? If THAT is you’re biggest concern with him, I think you need to get a life.

  10. why? jersey’s are expensive. I wouldn’t be blowing my money on a jersey for a guy that could be out of the league in 3 years.

  11. Cool to see Russell Wilson outsells RG3. I liked Kaepernick at first, but he’s letting the fame get to his head. He’s quickly becoming the Justin Bieber of the NFL.

  12. Someone from the dolphins must owe you money. They finally have a player getting some recognition and you just take shots at them whenever you get a chance.

  13. Excuse me but looking at this list, there has to be an oversight. Where is Tebow? There’s a new team so an opportunity to buy a fresh jersey to complete the collection. Has the faithful following faltered?

  14. Kaepernick and Wilson both outsell RGIII. Makes sense as they BOTH outplay him as well!

    Go NFC West!

  15. How fitting that ShAaron is sandwiched by linebackers.
And please give up on praising him as the best player in the NFL. MvPeterson has that recognition. Any “arguments” to be brought forth can wait until after 2014.
Also, Brad Johnson & Trent Dilfer have the same # of rings.

  16. The only reason Rodgers “isn’t as valuable” is because he’s been around for awhile and everyone that wants one already has one. It’s called market saturation. PFT just loves to hate on Rodgers.

  17. I hope people are buying jerseys for their young kids. If you are an adult wearing an NFL jersey you should be embarrassed.

  18. lol what? Since when is Aaron Rodgers the number one player int he NFL when Adrian Peterson was voted #1 player in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers is for sure a top QB in the NFL but I would still not even say he is the best QB in the NFL. Manning is still playing at a very high level, Brady is doing just as good as Rodgers, and how about Brees? Then you have RG3, Wilson, and Kaepernick who had amazing seasons last year (minus the RG3 injury)

However Adrian Peterson was VOTED as the number 1 player in the NFL so I do not know how you can come in here and even state that Aaron Rodgers is “arguably the best player in the NFL” when the fact is he is not. Good QB yep, Best player int he NFL? Nope.

  19. They sandwiched Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is arguably the best player in the NFL but whose jersey isn’t deemed nearly as valuable

First, I’m a viking fan and will always be, but the statement above irks me. I think I would like to know how many people own an A. R. jersey. I would expect it to be more than the other players listed. To say the jersey isn’t deemed nearly as valuable, what do you want… people who own the jersey already to order another one so you can say they feel the jersey is valuable. Roger’s jersey is very valuable to those who own one already.

  20. Low rent look at me selfish undisciplined poorly coached poorly parented Super Bowl loser one hit wonder.

  21. Not sure which is funnier desperate fins fan buying up Tannehill jerseys and beating Brady OR the lack of popularity with Patriots fans making Brady lose to Tannehill?

  22. Should have the pic of him doing his trademark pose, smelling his underarm with his fist clinched upward.

  23. as long as the 49ers beat green bay
in the first game this season I dont care what Kaepernick does. I wanna
see him get Capers fired cause he almost done it last season.

  24. Chi01town,
How about your own team try to beat the packers? Quit jumping bandwagons because you so desperately want the packers to lose. If your team were any good, you wouldn’t need to worry about the packers.

No he is NOT! How dare you even make that comparison to the great one!!! This KID hasn’t even played a full season, you can’t even put them both in same sentence until Kaepernick has a decade of dominance and somewhere close to six championships. He doesn’t even have one… SMH…

  26. So does nobody like Andrew Luck? Went from most obvious number one pick in decades to fifth most popular second year starter pretty darn quickly.
