On Saturday, we pointed out that the top-10 list of NFL jersey sales includes no rookies. Among the rookies, an early leader has emerged.
According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, the jersey issued to Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o sold more than any other rookie from April 1 through June 30, 2013.
Coming in second was Rams receiver Tavon Austin, followed by Bills quarterback EJ Manuel, Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, and Packers running back Eddie Lacy. Jets quarterback Geno Smith didn’t rank among the top five.
Te’o has parlayed fading pre-draft controversy into popularity; if he can show the speed and agility to become a competent, every-down linebacker in San Diego, Te’o could see even more of his jerseys fly off the shelves.
