Te’o the top rookie in jersey sales

On Saturday, we pointed out that the top-10 list of NFL jersey sales includes no rookies.  Among the rookies, an early leader has emerged.

According to Darren Rovell of ESPN, the jersey issued to Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o sold more than any other rookie from April 1 through June 30, 2013.

Coming in second was Rams receiver Tavon Austin, followed by Bills quarterback EJ Manuel, Vikings receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, and Packers running back Eddie Lacy.  Jets quarterback Geno Smith didn’t rank among the top five.

Te’o has parlayed fading pre-draft controversy into popularity; if he can show the speed and agility to become a competent, every-down linebacker in San Diego, Te’o could see even more of his jerseys fly off the shelves.

Does Te’o’s jersey come on rainbow colors?

After the problem he had last year, I don’t think shutting up and focusing on football will be that difficult for him to do. Best of luck to him.

A rather starless class of rookies.

I bet a lot of these jerseys were bought by imaginary people.

When you buy one you get a matching imaginary one for your partner. At no extra charge.

Regardless of the immature comments, obviously, fans aren’t as concerned about the Oprah Winfrey stuff and are just concerned about what he does on a football field. Only in the NFL do fans persecute the victim.

I previously criticized adults for wearing football jerseys. I have changed my thinking. I’m now going to go out and spend hundreds of dollars buying jerseys so I can vicariously feel and look like my favorite NFL players. Wow! Oh Boy!!! Maybe when I wear it to the movies or go shopping people will think that maybe I play for an NFL team! Wont that be so cool!

    Te’o is the new Seau.

Why is EJ Manuel 3rd? Who would buy a backups jersey

It’s odd to me to see adults wearing jerseys, but I was curious about the numbers that coincide with this top 10 list. It appears those numbers aren’t readily available.

Wonder how well they will sell as the Chargers roll to 6-10 this season?

It is truly sad and unfortunate that the sales of Aaron Hernandez jersey’s on ebay probably surpass the sale of all NFL Rookie jersey sales to date.

I wonder how many rookie jerseys have been sold so far as a whole? How does that number compare to the number of jersey’s that were turned in on the Aaron Hernandez trade in event?

I am willing to bet that the number of Victor Cruz jerseys that have been sold exceed both the number of rookie jerseys sold and Hernandez jerseys turned in.

Te’o’s jersey is only popular because of the scandal, just as Hernandez’s jersey became so popular after his arrest.

Notre Dame has a large and loyal fan base that’s why he is number one in rookie sales. A hell of a player, soon no one will remember this hoax crap, his play will erase all that.

    Te’o is the new Seau.
Considering Seau was a self centered coward, that’s not good.

By about Week 6, Cordarrelle Patterson will have the best-selling jersey in the league.

  23. chillyball says: Jul 22, 2013 11:29 AM

What was not reported was Cordarrelle Patterson sold 100 jereseys — but he bought 75 of those to give to friends.
