Michael Vick caused a bit of a stir earlier this offseason when he said that he preferred coach Chip Kelly make a quick decision about who would start at quarterback for the Eagles because it was difficult dealing with the questions that came with the competition.

He’s walked back those comments since then and he will resume his battle with Nick Foles and perhaps Matt Barkley as well at Eagles camp. The team reported for camp on Monday and General Manager Howie Roseman said that his own conversations with Vick have been positive and that the veteran is “really eager to show what he’s capable of.”

“Every conversation I’ve had, and anyone in this building had with Michael about competition, he’s all for it,” Roseman said, via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He wants the best players to play and he’s not shying away from competition in any aspect. He knew that when we signed him. He knew there was going to be competition at every spot, and he said nothing other than he wants to compete.”

Ultimately, Vick doesn’t have much choice but to be all for the quarterback competition. While Roseman wouldn’t discuss the hypotheticals, there’s a chance Vick could be released if he doesn’t win the starting job because it would save the Eagles $3.5 million and his chances of earning a starting job elsewhere would be compromised by the timing. So it behooves him to be up for anything the Eagles throw his way.
