Report: Von Miller facing a four-game suspension

Denver Broncos v Carolina Panthers Getty Images

The Broncos may need to sign John Abraham, after all.

With sack specialist Elvis Dumervil already gone for Baltimore, sack specialist Von Miller may not be available for the Broncos, for at least the first four games of the 2013 season.

According to ESPN, Miller currently is facing a four-game suspension for violating league policy.  The suspension currently is under appeal.

If it’s the PED policy, it means Miller had one violation.  If it’s the substance-abuse policy, it means he’s had multiple violations.

Either way, it means that someone has been blabbing, in direct violation of the NFL’s requirement that unresolved suspensions remain strictly confidential.

It happened last year to Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who now carries in some minds the stigma of cheater, even though he won his appeal and avoided a suspension.  And it now will happen to Miller, even if he prevails.

That said, it’s still not clear whether Miller allegedly violated the policy regarding performance-enhancing substances, or whether he violated multiple times the policy regarding recreational drugs — one of which is now legal to use in the state where the Broncos play their home games.

The appeal could be resolved before the start of the regular season, or it could linger.  Much of it depends on the complexity of the case, which possibly includes a defense based on Miller claiming his result was skewed by breathing chicken-coop fumes.

Say what you will about Aldon Smith but the only advantage he has on the field is Justin Smith.

Hahahaha. Keep running your mouth about the Pats boy, looks like you’re the one getting by, by violating the rules. Every one wants to talk about the Pats off season, looking like the Broncos are having one just as worse.

  4. ravensfan19 says: Jul 22, 2013 11:34 AM

Not Surprising, half the NFL is on Something. Y’all think some of the guys can take some of these hits and keep coming back for more each week Naturally ? There is a Reason their hasn’t been HGH Testing Implementing yet because alot of Players are Using, I can’t blame them though if I was in the NFL I’d probably be juiced also.

  5. ravensfan19 says: Jul 22, 2013 11:35 AM

But I will say its a Shame he can’t play in the Opener because I was looking forward to Our O Line shutting him down again like we did in the Playoffs.

I’m not a real Broncos fan but I like Von Miller. I swear I read an in article him talking about having ADHD. If it’s PEDs I’d put $ down it was Adderal.

  24. chargersdiehard says: Jul 22, 2013 11:44 AM

Considering the off season the Broncos are having, I am amazed how every writer is picking them to dominate the afc. Too many distractions and a couple injuries can ruin a super bowl season pretty fast.

  25. truthfactory says: Jul 22, 2013 11:44 AM

Would anyone really be shocked to find out that more than 50% of the guys on their favorite team are on something? There is no testing for HGH and these guys are so freakishly large- nothing would surprise me. For every one guy that gets caught, Im sure there are 20 more who are using.

  26. trifectajjc says: Jul 22, 2013 11:44 AM

  27. bostonian13 says: Jul 22, 2013 11:45 AM

    Timbuttrumm…..

Never said they didn’t; but miller is known for running his mouth about the Pats…..and now he’s suspended for using PEDs, so yeah that’s what the guy gets. Win something and then he can continue talking.

  28. justwinbaby29 says: Jul 22, 2013 11:46 AM

i am not going to hold this against miller and call him anything, he is a good kid who made some bad decisions, if he comes back and still wrecks shop then its forgotten sooner than later……sherman is a loudmouth who benefits from having one of the best d lines and linebacking crews in the game and acts as if he is a gift to the sport of football, im sure that has more to do with people calling sherman names than the hgh problem, that and so many other shehawk players have been cought too.

Not to get on a soap box too much, but if it were not for playing fantasy sports with friends, I probably would not watch sports at all these days. everything you watch is a mirage. these guys who are “elite athletes are” are really just pharmaceutical monsters. It can be entertaining at times , but when you see long standing records that were put up by clean athletes from years past drop, it just loses its luster. And now everyone is a suspect even if they are clean. It is just sucking the enjoyment out of sports to know that it’s not real. It’s like watching storage wars and then finding out it is all staged. You always had your suspicions about it , but when it comes out you just don’t want to watch the show anymore.

    as for this comment:

Everyone wants to talk about the Pats off season, looking like the Broncos are having one just as worse.

Murder always trumps DUI and PED’s. Not even close. New England had a much worse off season.

How in the world does Merriman’s name constantly come up as a poster child for steroids? He got busted once in May of ’06 (and was suspended for 4 games during the season) and still put up incredible years in ’06 & ’07. He took a cheap shot to the knee by the Titans in a playoff game and was never the same. Partly because he foolishly put off surgery after the ’07 season. Merriman is out of football because of a bum knee, not steroids. Julius Peppers was suspended 4 games for ‘roids his rookie year. How come nobody puts an asterisk on his career?

With the chance to make millions in a short period of time? Of cource players are going to risk getting caught for that kind of dough.

Hey shogun your donkeys didn’t beat one decent team last year, and try to recall what happened when you played the Pats last year. I believe the phrase is “Heel stomped!”
Denver is a joke, they lost their 2nd best pass rusher, their best rusher is on the edge of suspension, their DB’s are ancient and/or overrated, and their QB is one good hit away from a 4th neck surgery.
“Well we have Welker”. Yes, which means fewer catches for Decker and Thomas, the guys who can REALLY make plays downfield. Wes is king of the 6 yard pass and he is still looking for the end zone. Hell, he was beaten out of the starting slot job coming out of camp last year by Edelman.

The one good thing Denver has going for is is that after a bad loss to a decent team this year their mangement can show the boys how to go out and get good and drunk to forget the loss.

Weed is demonized waayyyyy too much. Class 1 narcotic? Seriously? The stuff is less dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes. Theres actually more benefits to it than side effects. Its better for you than pharmaceuticals and does the same jobb as half of them… or more.

The only problem with marijuana is that anyone can grow it and the feds see that as a problem. Being they cant get their sticky little fingers on tax revenue. Keep it illegal and its worth more money that way.

Sad to see what choices some make when given what most of us can only dream about. Its not about the broncos or the patriots its about the individual. I think I have become used to the routine by now that little surprises me. Commit a crime, say something on twitter, violate a drug police, get a dui,,,,,then say how sorry you are. To me and you that doesn’t work but, to an athlete it seems to.

“if it wasn’t for 2 returns by Holiday the broncos wouldn’t have been in the game.”

Special Teams are a part of the game smart guy. That wasn’t luck. Just as with Jacoby Jones returning all those kicks wasn’t luck either. BTW – Denver had more total yards in that game so to suggest they wouldn’t have been in the same if not for the returns is incredibly dense.

I see ravens picking up where they left off last year, catching lucky breaks.

O.K. Raider fans….Broncos would still win, they don’t even ahve to replace Von. I think 10 players on defence could stop the Raiderz. HA
