Chiefs’ fifth-round pick breaks collarbone on first day of camp

The first day of the first training camp of Sanders Commings‘ NFL career did not go well.

Commings, a defensive back selected by the Chiefs with the first pick in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft, suffered a broken collarbone today on the first day of camp, the Kansas City Star reports.

It’s too early to say how much time Commings will miss, but a broken collarbone would likely prevent him from practicing for several weeks, and the Chiefs may end up deciding that a rookie won’t be ready to play at all this year after missing all of camp and the preseason. Injured reserve is a possibility.

A three-year starter at Georgia, Commings was expected to get work at both safety and cornerback in training camp with the Chiefs.

And that’s why we don’t have FF drafts until after the 3rd week of Preseason….

Bummer. I always feel bad for a kid that gets hurt early. This is their time to shine and make the team and now all they can do is sit around watching in a hoodie. Hope he heals fast.

Its all Andy Reid’s fault. Hopefully he didn’t leave that injury bug in Philly.

you feel for the guy having a setback like this, but i was and still am excited about what he brings to the table. 6’0″ 220, great athlete, and a natural ballhawk – he was drafted to the MLB to play center field. he likely wouldn’t have seen extensive playing time early in the season anyway, and he should be recovered by week 4-5, so he’ll just have to work twice as hard to catch up with the rest of the team by mid-season.
