Jets sign Billy Cundiff

There’s another kicker in Jets camp.

Billy Cundiff, the 33-year-old veteran who has been with nearly half the teams in the league at one time or another, has signed with the Jets a day after working out for them.

That means the Jets’ training camp will feature a kicking competition between Cundiff and Nick Folk. That competition will probably get slightly less media attention than the quarterback competition between Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith.

To make room for Cundiff on the roster, the Jets have released undrafted rookie kicker Brett Maher.

The Jets are the 12th team Cundiff has signed with in his career. He has played in games for the Cowboys, Saints, Browns, Ravens and Redskins, and also been on the roster of (but never actually played for) the Buccaneers, Packers, Falcons, Chiefs, Lions and 49ers.

It doesn’t really matter because the Jets will be losing badly enough that Cundiff won’t have the opportunity to blow the games.

why not just bring doug brien back? he was really good at missing important kicks.

I don’t understand the logic behind this, but I guess that is typical for the Jets. He got beat out by a rookie last year with the Ravens, then proceeded to be horrible for the Redskins, and got replaced by essentially another rookie K. The rookie they cut to sign him is almost certainly a better option than he is at this point.

Billy Cundiff is going to lead the Jets in TD passes with 1, when the Jets succeed on a trick fake FG in week 17 with 3:42 left in the 4th Quarter, before trailing the Dolphins 37-1. I know, I know, you’re probably asking, “how could the Jets have only 1 point? You can’t score just 1 point in a football game.” Well, after going scoreless in their first 12 games of the season, the NFL will team up with the 31 other teams and change the rules so that when a team scores, they can actually defer the extra point to the opposing team out of pity. This will be forever known as the Ryan Rule, or the Not-So Happy Ending.

Geez folks lighten up. The Jets kicker is going to be Nick Folk. They signed Cundiff to let Folk rest his leg a little in camp. That’s all. It’s not a big deal.

How many former Ravens have worked out well for the Jets at this point? None, including the head coach?

You have to be kidding me! You play in a very windy outdoor stadium, and this guy is just plain inaccurate. Who makes these decisions for Jets? The fans must be so frustrated with this front office. Sorry Jet fans.. DC Pro Football franchise had to go through this nonsense for a very long time until the owner finally hired smart people to run the team. Good luck Jet fan.
