The New Orleans Saints announced Tuesday they have signed safety Akwasi Owusu-Ansah and waived cornerback Ryan Steed.

Owusu-Ansah has appeared in 14 games with the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars in two seasons in the league. Owusu-Ansah was a fourth-round pick of the Cowboys in 2010 out of Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has also spent time on the Oakland Raiders practice squad and was a tryout player during offseason workouts for the Kansas City Chiefs this summer.

Owusu-Ansah has played as a defensive back and wide receiver in his time in the league. He’s compiled 14 tackles with 646 return yards as a kick and punt returner.

Looking forward to hearing that name come out in a Cajun accent.

He’ll be in the lineup quicker than you can say “Akwasi Owusu-Ansah”.

My first thoughts when Dallas drafted him: 1) who is this guy? 2) why are we spending a 4th round pick on a Division-2 kick returner? After three seasons, I still don’t know the answer to either of those questions.

He couldn’t win a job in Dallas, so I don’t know what Rob thinks he can do with him now in New Orleans.

That’s easy for you to say.

Wasn’t a bad player during his time in Jax. Glad to see he got a roster spot.

I was sorta relieved when the Saints did not get Namdi Asomugha for the sake of spelling but, with Akwasi, I think I’ll just to refer to him as AOA.

With S Roman Harper and CB Patrick Robinson now on the PUP list, looks like Rob Ryan is making some phone calls to some of his former secondaries.

I’m not too excited about this though.

Ryan dumpster diving for ex Cowobys like he did when he came to Dallas with ex Browns.
Akwasi-Oh-no-anotherbust can not cover Ryan on a streak pattern.

Bobby Hebert can barely speak English. Hearing him butcher this guy’s name all through training camp should be very entertaining. He has surprisingly come a long way with Isa Abdul-Quddus.

Sounds like he’s backup insurance for many positions, plus special team. However, doubt that the fans will be chanting his name when he scores a touchdown. You need a short and pronounceable name like “Deuce!”

The guy’s a great athlete, just not much of a football player. Hard to see him sticking.

Will he be the ansah to the saints defense?

Nnamdi Asomugha thinks this name is hard to say.

Camp body, unless he’s got some really good return skills.
