Tommie Harris works out for the Bucs

In the final days before training camps start, teams routinely cast a wide net to work out players, if only to update their emergency lists to cover camp injuries.

The Buccaneers are doing so today.

In addition to the previously mentioned Visanthe Shiancoe and Peyton Hillis, the Bucs are also looking at defensive tackle Tommie Harris, according to Pat Yasinskas of

Harris was out of the league last year, and played in 2011 for the Chargers. The seven years prior were with the Bears.

The Bucs aren’t particularly deep at defensive tackle, and while Harris might not have anything left, it’s worth checking to see if he’s fit.

Wonder if he can play CB?

Always liked Harris, hopefully he can resurrect his career, and leave his off-field issues behind him.

With all these washed up vets visiting you would think Gruden and Bruce Allen were still running the show.

Tommie had a reputation for lack of effort in practice and conditioning when he was in his prime/decline with the Bears. Knee issues may have been partially to blame, but you have to wonder how ready to play he can really be after a year out of the league.

If he has anything left in the tank, we’ll take him.

This guy was so dominate in his prime. It’s a shame that injuries slowed him down so much.

Man Peyton Hillis career has really fallen off after being on the Madden cover… He’s not even worthy of his own sentence anymore. He’s one of the random guys included in commas now

how about the fact that he tore his hammy clean off the bone in 2006? hard to come back from that for anyone.

I wonder if boiling ribs brings back bad memories.

When Tommie was good, he was very, very good. I hope he can resurrect his career – with Tampa or another team.

I have 0% confidence that a long term vet at DT who was out of the league last year can help us. However, if he surprises me I’ll be more than fine with that and willing to say I was wrong. I had no confidence in Fausto Carmona for the Rays this year either and he’s on the mound TONIGHT looking to improve on our 18-2 terror of MLB,

How are we pronouncing “Visanthe” these days?
