Andre Smith starts training camp on non-football injury list

Bengals tackle Andre Smith will have plenty of time to talk to the folks from NFL Films and HBO, at least for now.  The veteran lineman, a first-rounder who became a free agent after only four seasons but who found no takers at his desired price tag before returning to Cincinnati, starts the year on the non-football injury list with a calf injury.

The Bengals announced the development amid a flurry of pre-camp moves, including the placement of receiver Tyrone Goard (finger), fullback Chris Pressley (knee), quarterback Zac Robinson elbow), and running back Bernard Scott (knee) on the physically unable to perform list.

Joining Smith on the active/NFI list is running back Cedric Peerman (ankle).  Long snapper Bryce Davis is on the NFI list with an illness.

Any of these players can be shifted to the active roster at any time.

For Smith, his inability to practice is the latest disappointment from a guy who had turned around a lackluster early career.  Smith didn’t participate in offseason workouts and skipped the team’s mandatory minicamp for personal reasons.  Coach Marvin Lewis said Smith would be fined.

    The question I have.

Will he be in the league in 3 years?

As a Bengals fan, this is sickening. Lazy waste of talent. You can’t count on guys like this.

Yep, that’s why no one would pay him what he wanted including the Bengals.

Another brilliant 1st round pick. Maybe you can trade him straight up for Vernon Gholston.

Incredible waste – any work ethic and he could be a quality lineman. Bench him and start Dennis Roland and rotate some lineman situationally.

I guess it depends on how he hurt the calf. If he hurt it working out, then no big deal. If he hurt it walking back and forth to the fridge, that might be a problem. Either way, the guy is oblivious to public relations.

I didn’t want my Bengals to re-sign him. Oh well. But on a positive note, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com says it appears Andre has reported at playing weight. So that’s good at least.

Can’t believe the Bengals wasted their time and money re-signing this clown. We all knew if he re-signed for good money he was going to go back to his old ways of being fat and sub-par play. Haynesworth 2.0 here folks. They should have taken their chance on a rookie out of the draft. Cheaper and you make sure you don’t get a kid with all the red flags that bubba Smith had coming out of the combine. I hate that they re-signed this guy.

Who didn’t see this one coming, what a sorry excuse for football player . Only played last year to get big check, that’s why no one had any interest in him. Now he’s got his money he will be just as lazy and as sorry as before!! You deserve better Bengals! But you should have known!

A blind man could’ve seen this coming.
