It looks like the Jets and wide receiver Braylon Edwards just can’t quit each other.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Edwards is taking a physical with the Jets on Wednesday. Should all go well on the medical front, Edwards is expected to join the team for the third time. His first Jets stint began with a trade from the Browns, where he played with new Jets tight end Kellen Winslow, in 2009 and ended after the 2010 season while the second run took place late last season after Edwards was dropped by the Seahawks.

Edwards caught 18 passes between the two teams last year and had just 15 catches with the 49ers in 2011 in a year that also saw him have knee surgery. Those numbers are not particularly impressive, but neither is a Jets receiving corps that is still waiting on Santonio Holmes to set a target date in his return from a Lisfranc injury.

Edwards probably isn’t going to return to the level of 2010, when he averaged 17.1 yards per catch and seven touchdowns as an effective deep threat, but the Jets are so thin at wideout that the mere possibility is enough to justify bringing him on board.
