The Oakland Raiders announced Wednesday they have signed second-round pick Menelik Watson.

The deal with Watson comes on the eve of the Raiders’ start of training camp with players reporting on Thursday and the first practice scheduled for Friday.

The former Florida State offensive tackle was selected by Oakland with the 42nd pick during April’s NFL Draft. He is the ninth member of the Raiders’ draft class to sign their rookie contract.

The Raiders first-round pick, cornerback D.J. Hayden, is the only player still unsigned.

The funniest part of the draft. “With the 42nd pick of the 2013 draft, the Oakland Raiders pick…
    Men…Lick? Watson” – Rodger Goodell

Cool. I’m excited to see what this guy can bring to the team. From most accounts he was a fairly solid pick and we could use a better RT.

Watson’s middle name is “Upside”. If they don’t sign Hayden soon, it’s because he is not recovered from his spring surgery. They are not a threat to compete this year, so it’s not a big deal

Anyone know what’s going on with DJ? Health issues, contract issues? I haven’t read anything. It’s been awfully quiet with Hayden.

If you’re not Native-American than you really have no voice! This has nothing to do with political correctness. It has to do with those who it offends

Why is the guy that everyone was afraid of drafting for health concerns….that the Raiders drafted in the first round….still the only guy unsigned?? I like the pick. It was a position of need, and if he’s healthy, he’s worth it…..but now you’re going to hold out. What ever happened to being classy? Am I old school? Is that a completely foreign word to people these days? They gambled on you. How about a little reciprocity D. J. ?

He’ll be starting by week six. Sign Veldheer long-term and, with Wiz at center, the makings of a dominant OLine for years to come.

” . . . ninth member of the Raiders’ draft class to sign their rookie contract.”

It should be “. . . to sign HIS rookie contract,” correct? Didnt you go to journalism school? Unless Manelik Watson is a siamese twin, he cant be a “they.” He is a “he” and he signed “his” rookie contract.

Or maybe you meant the Raiders (a “they”) gave him their Raider contract and he signed it.

Carry on, sir. But please proofread a bit.

“They” refers to the draft class, as in Menelik is the ninth member of a group of people that have signed their contract. Before trying to correct someone’s grammar make sure that your reading comprehension is up to snuff.

Steelerben, you should follow your own advice because you’re incorrect in your correction.

Menelik is the subject of the sentence. Referring to him as the “ninth member of the draft class” still makes for a singular noun. The preposition that refers to it later on in the sentence has to match. He signed Menelik’s contract. They/Their didn’t sign Menelik’s contract.

    Maddenboy is correct.

Keep cutting education though and fighting for conservative principles.
