Reports: Cowboys poised to add George Selvie, Landon Cohen

The Cowboys’ defensive line depth chart could have a couple new names.

The club appears ready to add defensive end George Selvie, Aaron Wilson of NationalFootballPost.com reported Wednesday. Also, per Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys have designs on signing defensive tackle Landon Cohen, too, provided he passes a physical.

The Cowboys have endured injury woes along the defensive line since camp began. Starting end Anthony Spencer will have surgery on a bruised knee, while starting tackle Jay Ratliff is sidelined with a hamstring ailment. Also, key reserve Tyrone Crawford suffered a potentially serious and season-ending leg injury at the start of camp.

Selvie, 26, recorded 15 tackles and one sack in nine regular-season games with the Jaguars in 2012. He was most recently with the Buccaneers, who waived him in May. Selvie (6-4, 270) has appeared in 36 regular-season games since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

The 6-3, 300-pound Cohen last played in an NFL regular-season game with New England two years ago. He was a 2008 seventh-round pick of Detroit, whose head coach was Rod Marinelli, now the Cowboys’ defensive line coach. Cohen, 26, has played in 25 regular-season games.

UPDATE 11:22 p.m. ET: The Selvie and Cohen deals are official, per DallasCowboys.com.

George Selvie would seem to be a perfect end in a 4-3. I’m disappointed the Bucs let him go so quickly, he seems to be a guy that does more in games than in practice. He was a monster at USF, I really hope he catches on somewhere.

Also I hate Dallas for getting Monte Kiffin — he should have returned to the Bucs. He’s 90% of the reason the Bucs won the Super Bowl, Gruden maybe gets 10% or less. There is a reason that Gruden was fired the same year that Monte left, anyone that ever watched a Bucs game in the last 15 years knew how much Monte meant to the team. BTW I highly suggest you watch The Waterboy, it will help you understand when Kiffin is talking.

Selvie plays with a good motor and I read he was very active and impressed in camp today. May have found a good one here perhaps.

Selvie wasn’t an undrafted free agent, he was drafted in the 7th round by the St. Louis Rams.
