Running low on D-line, Cowboys consider Okoye

The Cowboys might have wanted to look at internal options to replace some injured defensive linemen, but three days into training camp, they’re running low on linemen.

And with a roster spot to fill, they’re considering several options, including former Texans first-round pick Amobi Okoye, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN.com.

Okoye played last year with the Bears under defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, who is now the Cowboys’ defensive line coach.

The Cowboys have lost backup defensive end Tyrone Crawford for the year with a torn Achilles, starting defensive end Anthony Spencer went back to Dallas for knee surgery and could miss a month, and starting defensive tackle Jay Ratliff has yet to practice because of a hamstring strain. Reserve defensive tackle Ike Igbinosun was also spotted in a walking boot, dropping them to 10 healthy defensive linemen for practice.

“Injury provides opportunity,” coach Jason Garrett said. “There are some young guys that we have we want to see. We want to see a lot more of those guys play. We saw some of them play in the spring. We’ll get a chance to see more of them now that we will have the pads on starting [Tuesday]. It’s just an opportunity to show us what they can do. If they do that, they earn more of our trust and we give them more opportunities.”

The guys on hand are going to get opportunities for plenty of reps, also, with half the starting line and less than three rotations available for practice.

    What the heck sign the guy if nothing more than a camp body to get through 5 preseason games.

    So, let me get this straight, you let Idonijie go, but, not you’re going to sign some guy whose been an underachiever every place else he’s been.

    Early indication the Bears are in trouble this year.

    HaHaHa I called it a few days ago when some moron in the cowgirl front office said “our replacement player is on this team”. Talking about a lineman on defence. Once again this team runs its mouth with out thinking first. What a great run organization NOT.!!!!!!! cowgirl fans its gonna be a very very long season maybe 4-12 bottom of the barrel.

    @iks311:

    Part of knowing how to read involves comprehending (look it up if you’re not sure) what you have just read. You have not mastered that part yet.

    Okay, now that you understand the article after all, you have my apologies…And my sympathy when the Bears do well and make your life miserable.

    We tend to do well with other team’s scraps. Think Colombo (fellow former bear), Leonard Davis, Kosier (even though we got him for Anthony Henry, I think), Laurent Robinson. All latchkey kids who made a name for themselves in Dallas. Now if we could just get that elusive safety we’ve so desperately been trying to find through Free Agency. (Elam= Nope, Pool = Nope, Hamlin = best of the lot)
