Falcons, Matt Ryan close to new deal

The long-awaited deal between the Falcons and Matt Ryan is almost done.

The Falcons and Ryan are finalizing a five-year contract extension that will exceed $100 million, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.

At more than $100 million, a five-year contract for Ryan would average more than $20 million a year. The $20 million a year mark is the magic number Joe Flacco reached with his six-year, $120.6 million deal. Ryan’s contract has been a hot topic of conversation in the NFL since the day Flacco signed.

The 2013 season would be the last on the six-year deal Ryan signed as the third overall pick of the 2008 NFL draft. A long-term extension would allow both the Falcons and Ryan to be certain that he’s the franchise quarterback for the prime years of his career.

Let him walk, he deserves to be with a contender.

Maybe it is smart for teams to start shifting to pistol offense QBs. Then you can make the argument to pay them like running backs and do away with these 100 million dollar deals.

In other topic, Rex Ryan was asked what he thought about the Hernandez being arrested.

He said ” I wish I had his tattoos”

Signing Ryan to an extension means the Falcons will always be “close” to getting to the Super Bowl but never quite have that extra magic to getting there.

He was about to sign but someone passing by intercepted his pen.

He’s the modern day Steve DeBerg with the way he throws, moves in pocket. Not a bad thing just not a superstar without HOF tight end and 2 great WR.

wouldn’t feel good paying him that kind of money.

A lot of money for an unproven QB, he needed to be in the 15-18 mill a year range with Qb’s like Stafford, Romo, Eli etc.

Some of these comments are ridiculous!!! How many superbowl rings did Peyton Manning have his first 5 years the league?? NONE!! Matt Ryan is just reaching his prime, if the falcons wouldn’t have paid him, I bet someone else would have! And yes, he deserves every penny, he has the most wins in the HISTORY of the NFL his 5 years. He also has more home wins than any other QB in there first 5 years since 1966!! He also has more comeback wins than any other QB in there first give years!!! He will get a ring real soon!
