The Giants finished their deal with first-round offensive lineman Justin Pugh, but in an odd twist, they aren’t finished negotiating.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the Giants agreed to a deal with Pugh Thursday afternoon, which will be signed when he gets to camp.

That leaves one unsigned Giants pick, fourth-rounder Ryan Nassib.

Earlier today, Giants co-owner John Mara said the team was “pretty close” to finishing that one, even though he was the lowest remaining unsigned pick.

“These things happen from time to time,” Mara said. “It will get done.”

Getting Pugh on time will help him have a chance to compete for a starting job, likely at right tackle (which would move David Diehl inside). There’s not as much pressure on Nassib immediately, though if he progresses, he could convince them to part ways with veteran backup quarterback David Carr.
