Veteran offensive lineman Travelle Wharton cancelled his visit with the Broncos, but he could still wind up in the AFC West.
Bill Williamson of ESPN.com reports that the Raiders are interested in adding Wharton to their roster. Williamson terms the Raiders’ interest in Wharton as “high,” but there’s no visit schedule at the moment. As was the case with the Broncos, the feeling is that Wharton is looking for more than the Raiders are willing and/or able to offer him.
The Raiders certainly have a need for offensive line depth, so they will likely be hoping that Wharton’s price drops at some point in the near future.
Wharton has already visited with the Panthers, for whom he played the first eight years of his career. The Panthers just restructured the contract of linebacker Jon Beason, which opens up some cap room for them to use in their pursuit of Wharton or others. If Wharton is indeed one of their targets, he may not be on the market long enough for the Raiders to work themselves into the mix for his services.
