The Redskins added to their secondary depth Thursday, signing cornerback Ryan Mouton and safety Jose Gumbs.

The 5-foot-9, 184-pound Mouton could compete for playing time inside. He notched 44 tackles in 13 games (two starts) for Tennessee in 2012.

Mouton, 26, was a third-round pick of the Titans in 2009. He’s appeared in 36 career regular-season games, recording 61 tackles and defending three passes.

A first-year pro, Gumbs (5-10, 210) had a stint on the Chiefs’ practice squad last season. The 25-year-old safety signed as an undrafted free agent with New Orleans in 2012.

Washington also announced starting cornerback Josh Wilson was removed from the active / physically unable to perform list after passing a physical.

Why are we always going for midget corners? Man don’t they know these studs in the NFC East alone are just match up problems all day?

Probably because you don’t need seven–foot supermen to fill in as camp bodies. Besides, 5’9 to 5’11 is a pretty standard size for NFL CB’s. Josh Wilson and D. Hall are sort of smallish, but they’re both functional pass defenders and local kids who are happy to play for DC. I’m not following what you mean by “always going for midget corners” They’ve acquired two CB’s in 2013–EJ Biggers is on the larger side at 6′, and David Amerson is freakish at 6’3.

Most importantly though, these guys are only on the roster because Wilson is on PUP for now.
