The Jets have placed running back Mike Goodson on the reserve / did not report list, the club confirmed Thursday.

“We knew Mike was not going to report and we understand why he’s not here,” Jets head coach Rex Ryan said in a statement issued Thursday, according to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News.

The Jets signed the 26-year-old Goodson to a three-year deal in March. He was arrested in May on marijuana and handgun charges.

ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini first reported Goodson had been placed on the reserve list.

The Jets made some changes in the backfield in the offseason, adding Goodson and trading for the Saints’ Chris Ivory. Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight are other options at tailback for New York. However, McKnight has been placed on the active / physically unable to perform list to start camp, the club disclosed Thursday.

In other Jets transactions Thursday, the club waived first-year wide receiver Thomas Mayo and undrafted rookie defensive lineman Jake McDonough with injury settlements.
