Chargers inside linebacker Jonas Mouton suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Thursday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported today.

The injury will end Mouton’s season, Gehlken reported. Mouton was practicing as a backup in camp, the Union-Tribune said.

The 25-year-old Mouton appeared in three games as a reserve in 2012. A second-round pick out of Michigan in 2011, Mouton (6-2, 240) missed most of his rookie season with a shoulder injury.

UPDATE 8:20 p.m. EST: Chargers coach Mike McCoy provided confirmation of Mouton’s ACL tear, per the club’s official Twitter feed.

Is this guy going to be another Ryan Mathews? AJ could sure could pick the fragile ones.

Sucks man, I wanted to see him do some work on the field. Hopefully he comes back strong next year if they keep him.

Another AJ Smith-inspired pick and he was injured all last year too. Nothing is more exciting than to watch your draft picks continually develop their game on crutches

And nothing of value was lost.

Ryan Mathews was a Pro Bowler in his second season. No comparison to Mouton, who will have played like 5 downs in his first three seasons. I can see the Bolts giving Mouton an injury settlement and cutting our losses. I feel for Mouton. Hell of a way to start your NFL career.

Mathews can’t tie his shoes without breaking a scapula. Everyone knows the Pro Bowl is a joke, but fans like humb0lt play the Pro Bowl card every chance they get.

What are they feeding these guys at training camp? Seems every time I turn around another member of my beloved Chargers is hurt and out for the season. Is this a Strength and Conditioning Coach thing? Sadly now I am hoping for only one wish, a sweep of the Raiders. Looks like another wish shot to hell.
    But there is still hope.

I hate to see this with any player – especially a kid on the cusp of showing he belongs

After his well deserved pity party I hope he bucks up, has the right attitude about the ACL repair and rehab, and comes back more determined than ever

Not a Chargers fan by any stretch – but I’m rooting for this guy from here on out

Ryan Mathews was never a Pro Bowler. Dream on Dolt fan. He had two good pre season games, that’s it. He’s a bust like this linebacker nobody ever heard of. Lol

This new coach is tearing players up… Chargers will be signing a lot of scrubs to fill out the roster this year.
