There are no more players drafted after the first round in April still looking for a contract.

The last man standing on that front was quarterback Ryan Nassib, but he was crossed off the list Thursday when the fourth-round pick agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Giants. Nassib signed on the same day as his college teammate and Giants first-round pick Justin Pugh.

Pugh, an offensive tackle, could conceivably find himself blocking for Nassib again as a professional, although the Giants surely hope that Nassib sees snaps for them at quarterback as much as they hope to receive an email with a photo attached from Carlos Danger. If all goes according to plan, Nassib will spend his rookie year learning and then progress over the next few preseasons into a player that the Giants can flip for another draft pick since they’ll be keeping Eli Manning in the starting job as long as possible.

That’s a bit of a step down for a player who some thought would go much earlier in the draft than he wound up going, but there’s not much to do about that now except try to prove people wrong in whatever opportunities Nassib might get in the next few years.
