Vick, Foles keep splitting first-team reps

The Philadelphia Eagles have commenced their training-camp practices, and the top two quarterbacks continue to split first-team reps.

Per Sal Paolantonio, Mike Vick got the first shot with the first team.  Nick Foles took the second-team reps.  And rookie Matt Barkley brought up the rear, with the third-team reps.

According to multiple reports, however, Foles eventually got a chance with the first team.  Foles’ chances included a long throw to receiver DeSean Jackson, who made what is being described on Twitter as a “circus” catch.

And so it will continue until coach Chip Kelly names a starter.   He’s said that will happen when a starter emerges.

The longer that isn’t Mike Vick, the less likely it ever will be.

I would be surprised is Vick didn’t win the starting job, with a refurbished, stable offensive line and Chip Kelly’s fast paced offense, it would definitely make the most sense

and Pat Shurmur gave an interview praising Barkley & talking about installing a rookie QB as the starter.

Doesn’t matter who starts the season, the QB who finishes it will be the one Chip Kelly selected…Matt Barkley.

I’ll bet Aaron Rodgers salary this season that Vick wins the job for week 1.

In that case let’s hope Chip picks the starter on September 8th.

    Good riddance!

As a proud Eagles fan, I want to say that I’m for Foles all the way!

Let Vick go fumble and throw to the other team in a different city!

    Bye, Bye Ron Mexico…

The Myth of Mike Vick’s Greatness

    Matt Barkley

    Some other guys

McNabb thinks he could beat them all out.

Imagine Randall with Chip Kelly…$.10 head or not, that would have been fun to watch.

People hating on Vick forget just what he did his first year as a starter in Philly before the O-line decided to take a season off.

Mike Vick is Starting! Get over it!

  9. eacuna05 says: Jul 26, 2013 2:43 PM

Probably time to stop kidding ourselves, it’s gonna be Foles.

    Make Arizona proud, Nick!

In 3 years the Eagles fanbase will be trying to run overrated Chip out of town after another substandard season while watching Andy Reid and the KC Chiefs celebrate a Super Bowl championship.

Did someone really mention AR12 in this thread? Haters gonna hate…. GO PACK GO!!!!

  12. trytobnimble says: Jul 26, 2013 2:47 PM

Vick is still the better Madden QB, so let it be him.

  13. edawg7l says: Jul 26, 2013 2:49 PM

I hope the Eagles keep losing – so,yeah, I’m pulling for Vick as their starter.

  14. jayniner says: Jul 26, 2013 2:50 PM

This sounds like an epic battle of sub-par QB’s.

Regardless of who wins, the Eagles lose….

You can have him back in Atlanta. Hell, I wouldn’t even want anything in return, but if Atlanta insisted, maybe some nice drink coasters.

Serious question: What seems to be more of an aberation…Mike Vick’s first year in Philly or the other years, including his time in Atlanta?

The perfect Mike Vick offense has 1 read and 2 options. I call it the, “Is Algae Open” offense. Look for Algae, if he’s open, throw it to him, if he’s, covered run.

  16. captrtp says: Jul 26, 2013 2:54 PM

Vick can’t read defenses… He’s Done Foles and Barkley are the future

  17. snaponrules says: Jul 26, 2013 2:57 PM

Even a college coach has to be able to see that an offence with 200 plays is 198 more then vick will ever be able to learn.

If you’re an Eagles fan (like me) and you watched every Michael Vick snap for the past couple of years you have to be honest with yourself– he’s average at best and he makes mistakes at the worst possible times. The o-line has been bad but you cant blame everything on the o-line. Maybe Foles is a stop gap but im putting my money on him as the starter.

  19. gopblows says: Jul 26, 2013 2:58 PM

I thought Kevin kolb was the great Savior
Now foles. Sorry guys no great white hope
    In sight.

  21. insanelomein2 says: Jul 26, 2013 3:01 PM

As an Eagles fan, Im completely tired and over the Michael Vick era. All you hear year in and year out is Vick is going to slide, he’s going to protect his body. Truth is he’s an aging 34yr old QB who cant read a defense and fans are constantly stating “this is Vick’s year”.

Foles/Barkley for the present and future of this team and sanity of the fanbase please and thank you.

  22. truths4all says: Jul 26, 2013 3:03 PM

My two cents — the winner is MATT BARKLEY!!!

    Vick will remain too inaccurate.

Foles will remain too slow and clumsy.

Barkley by default (and because Kelly drafted him – these coaches have such huge egos).

  23. myeaglescantwin says: Jul 26, 2013 3:04 PM

and this will continue until one man has EARNED THE JOB.

i don’t understand what YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ABOUT THIS.

no one on this team aside from COX and MATHIS earned a roll through last year’s performance.
a team of bums deserves nothing.

2010: lost in the first round of the playoffs, had a chance to win the game & (surprise!) threw the game ending interception in the end zone.

The dude has always been an underachiever, over-hyped & a major disappointment. He’s a coach killer:
Reeves (who went to a SB with Chris Chandler at QB)

If Chip knows what’s good for him, he will not start this POS at QB. Get Vick out!!

  25. qdog112 says: Jul 26, 2013 3:25 PM

Foles will never be a starter in the NFL.

  26. bobbyhoying says: Jul 26, 2013 3:37 PM

I think Chip wishes it were Vick, but like DeSean Jackson, I think he’s having difficulty learning the offense. Kelly keeps talking about accuracy and knowing where everybody else is supposed to be. I’ll bet a few former starters are struggling with that. I think the true fans in Philly expect Foles to grasp the offense.

  27. rwindett says: Jul 26, 2013 3:42 PM

Not much of a competition if they are the only 2 getting first team reps. Stick Barkley in there. Learn from Seattle and San Francisco. Neither Vick or Foles did much with the team last year and the O pretty much stayed the same. Learn from this Eagles, use Barkley!

  28. kdsr382013 says: Jul 26, 2013 4:24 PM

Good to See Jackson doing something He’s good at. Circus catches are preferable to him doing anymore rapping. Did ya’ll hear that song he made? I just got rid of the migrane it gave me

  29. footballradioshow says: Jul 26, 2013 4:45 PM

    Raider Vick???

  30. dku5 says: Jul 26, 2013 4:52 PM

Neither Vick nor Foles did anything that impressed me as an Eagles fan. Both were playin on the same team, and they both sucked. They had identical QB ratings, with problems holding on to the ball and inaccurate passes when they threw it.

Kelly has to choose between two QBs who had QB ratings in the 60s last year, or a rookie 4th round pick. I am not surpised he hasn’t picked a starter yet – I don’t think that QB is on the team yet.

  31. sillec28 says: Jul 26, 2013 6:18 PM

Vick and Foles will remain in competition until one of them emerges as the least bad.

  32. kellogg1118 says: Jul 26, 2013 6:28 PM

Its beginning of training camp, They are just learning the BASICS of this offense, if they can’t do that get rid of them, so most likely each QB has at least showed good grasp of the basics, not really much of a platform to emerge from, a starter will emerge when Chip starts to go more complex he who grasps that better will emerge as the starter so everybody can give this story a rest for about 2 weeks

  33. kellogg1118 says: Jul 26, 2013 6:31 PM

Or at least wait until the pads come on

  34. nitro276 says: Jul 26, 2013 8:51 PM

It is going to be Nick Foles.

    Vick will be somewhere else.

Barkley was a VALUE pick in the 4th round. If Chip REALLY wanted him, he would have grabbed Barkley sooner.

  35. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Jul 26, 2013 8:59 PM

Which you prefer, hanging or electric chair? It’s about the same choice.

What about 2011, when the line was healthy?

  37. oldbyrd says: Jul 27, 2013 10:33 AM

If its learn and win eventually, Its Nick. If its win now, Vic has to be covered, he will will start. Personally I think, with the O Line now back in tact, Vic to start is a no brainer. That gives them a load of off weapons.
