Visanthe Shiancoe a spectator at Ravens’ Friday practice

Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe watched the Ravens’ Friday training-camp practice with GM Ozzie Newsome, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reported.

According to the Sun, the Ravens are “considering signing Shiancoe,” who reportedly was to work out for Tampa Bay earlier this week.

The Ravens’ depth beyond Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson is a little thin, and the 33-year-old Shiancoe would give them another experienced reserve option.  Shiancoe appeared in four games for New England in 2012, all as a backup.

Before his one-season stint with New England, Shiancoe played five seasons with the Vikings (2007-2011) and four seasons with the Giants (2003-2006). He’s hauled in 243 passes for 2,677 yards and 27 TDs in 10 NFL seasons, with his prime years with Minnesota, for which he was a key part of the passing game.

Shiancoe, who was born in England, played collegiately at Baltimore’s Morgan State University.

Ozzie cautioned not to read too much into this. “He pays his five bucks, he has the right to watch practice just like the next fan.”.

The biggest thing coming out of Ravens camp Friday was that the team sold out all tickets for the season in 15 minutes!!! Yes, tagliaboo, you were right to not give Baltimore an expansion team……lol.

This would be a good signing. In addition to the fact he’d be the best TE on the roster, they should probably carry 4 or 5 TE’s. Expect TP, RC & Shamarko each to pound one into submission every time they play.

Any consensus on how to pronounce his first name yet?

It went from VIS-AUNT-TAY (aunt like restaurant) to VIS-AN-THH and then back again. Unless he changed it again.
Big fan of his while he was on the Vikings but he was getting oft hurt towards the end of his stay and he is two years removed from then.
He also likes the camera a little too much.

You know its really funny seeing Steeler trolls trolling over a VISIT from a veteran tight end right after their top two tight ends in Miller and Johnson were placed on the PUP list. Maybe Colbert should be calling up Visanthe instead of Ozzie? Oh yeah, Ozzie is already 5 steps ahead of him with two good tight ends practicing already, never mind.

How desperate do you have to be to sign an ex-Viking who best known for walking naked in front of the cameras in a locker room?

Now that was a thrill for the Viking fan but that is their persuasion, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Pencil in Dennis Pitta as the new #1 receiver and now you need to look for end depth.

He’s a real locker room presence kinda guy.
