Kraft says the Patriot Way is about having good people

In a summer dominated by discussions of Aaron Hernandez, questions have been raised about whether the “Patriot Way” has gone the wrong way. But Patriots owner Robert Kraft says his franchise is still all about having good people on the team.

Kraft was asked by former Patriot Heath Evans on NFL Network what the “Patriot Way” means to him.

“It’s about trying to collect a lot of good people, having everybody in the organization on the same page; doing things in the community,” Kraft said.

Kraft said he believes the Patriots play an important role in brining their community together.

“I think people in America today, it’s not just about money,” Kraft said. “They want to be connected to something they feel is special and when they get up every day, they look forward to coming to work. We try to create an environment here that does that. We’re not always successful, but we give it our best shot.”

Kraft hopes that by the time the season starts, we’re talking a lot more about the good people on the Patriots than we’re talking about Aaron Hernandez.

  1. Mr Kraft, Nobody believes the Patriot Way is anything more than a euphemism for win at any cost. Hernandez redefined the Patriot Way in the public’s view. Hire a focus group to come up with a new slogan because the damage is done.

Robert Kraft has built a great brand and franchise that the New England region is proud to call our own. Yesterday in a driving rainstorm, over 6500 fans showed up to watch practice.

Hate all you want but the Patriots are still the best franchise in the NFL.

  3. The Patriot Way is forever tarnished to those outside of Foxborough. Not that it is the teams fault, but it seems that’s the reality of the situation to most fans.

  4. Seriously? Tell us how you spin the signing and drafting of players such as Haynesworth, Moss, Ocho, Dennard, Hernandez. Dude should just keep quiet now, people are laughing.

  5. can we stop with this “patriot way” as if they are above what they really are: a football team in existence for enjoyment, nothing more, nothing less.

  6. If that’s the case why is Belicheck the coach? Good people don’t illegally film their opponents or try to run up the score at every opportunity. I also laugh at the new standard Kraft has for “good” people; as long as you aren’t a murderer, you’re cool.

  7. Never been able to figure out how any team is supposed to know what its players are doing off the field unless they’re arrested, tested positive for illegal drugs or PEDs, or similar stuff. No team has its players followed 24-7. So how were the Patriots supposed to know what Hernandez was up to? He hadn’t been arrested, hadn’t tested positive for anything, hadn’t done anything AFAIK that would indicate he was going around murdering people.

  8. Hernandez, Dennard, Christian Peter a few years ago (released three days after he was drafted because the Patriots “didn’t know the extent of his off-field problems at Nebraska”). I could go on…

Right… these guys were pillars of society!

  9. Probably the most arrogant, fraudulent, hypocritical group of people ever assembled.

Go back to your screen tests you old fart.

  10. The Patriots way is to cheat. You don’t get fined the way you did for being “good people”. Sell that bill of goods to somebody else.

Spying on your opponents is NOT what good people do.

  11. Good people, like cheaters must be what he meant. The patriots little run is long over. Their three SB wins are forever tarnished by the spy gate mess and who knows what else. The tuck rule comes to mind too. What a cheesey eh-hem dynasty they were. Barf.

  12. Best owner in the league. So they give some “bad apples” second chances and they have mostly worked out. They are not mind readers.

Great organization for a vet to get a second chance.

  13. The Patriots have been handling this about as well as any team could be expected to up until this point, but you can’t just drone on about “good people” and expect that to cancel out a Hernandez-sized issue. The closest I come to relating to Patriot fans here is being a Viking fan during the “Love Boat” incident — words don’t fix a situation like that. It takes years of good will and “better luck” with players. But I don’t fault them for the rhetoric — it’s worth a shot.

  14. Yeah the idiotic patriot way is to have human garbage like Hernandez, and now Tiny Tim Teblow – the most pathetic excuse for an NFL QB or player ever to disgrace the NFL. Hope the patriot way goes 0-16 this season and that dim bulb kraft goes broke!

  15. You can’t spend more than 5 min in the New England area and not see the charitable benefits this team has brought to the people most in need. Every time you turn around there is some kind of charity event bring put on by the players or the organization as a whole. The haters are gonna talk trash but by and large mr Kraft and co. Have done a very good job if bringing people in that fit what he’s describing. It’s really easy to take the very few bad apples and paint the whole team that way. Along with the dennards and Aaron hernandezs of the team their have been some really good reclamation projects that worked. Corey Dillion, randy moss, Antoine smith( I don’t know if he was a “bad guy” before the pats but he looked scary as hell) trash the pats all you want but by and large the team has done way more good than not. And anyone that says they should have known how bad ah was gonna turn out I wanna take you to the race track

  16. It’s sad to see that there are fans so jealous of the Patriots success – that they would actually make disparaging remarks about Bob Kraft.

They make themselves feel better for slamming a guy who has invested millions into charity as well as the local economy, creating one of the few economic success stories (i.e. much needed jobs) in this economically depressed region, not to mention the most consistently successful team in the NFL to boost spirits.

He even built a new stadium without public tax dollars.

More to the point at hand, Kraft prides himself in helping kids like Hernandez rise above their troubled upbringing, and I’m sure he hoped that Hernandez would take his contract and ensure his and his family’s economic security for life.

Instead Hernandez not only squandered that, but allegedly took a life. Let’s not try to pin any of Hernandez’ actions on Kraft.

  17. qdog112 says:Spying on your opponents is NOT what good people do.

    ——————

And… so… you think that coordinators across the NFL cover their mouths when calling in plays TO THIS DAY for WHAT reason?

The rules actually allow for “spying” – they just specify where the cameras can be. They changed the rule in 2006 – and the Patriots didn’t follow the rule in the first game of 2007.

Google “George Halas” and “spying” and see what you get. Google a few other coaches – Lamar Hunt for example – or just “NFL spying” and learn your NFL history.

Spygate has become an NFL Urban Myth – but gullible Patriots-haters can’t seem to understand logic.

  19. Joesixpack. I agree with you except calling ma a economically depressed region is a bit of a stretch. Sure it’s tough there but it’s in much much better shape than most of the country so that part is a little disingenuous.

  20. The envy pouring out here is ironic when most of the posters are probably Ray Lewis supporters. Not a Pats fan, but admire their handling of the AH situation unlike the Ravens who are the epitome of win at any cost organization.

  21. I don’t see any difference between the patriot way and the bengals way…basically it’s all the same “Bring in criminals”

  22. clownsfan says: The guy who want $20 for 4 razor blades says “It’s not about money”

    ————————–

So let me get this straight. You actually think that because the Patriots play in Gillette Stadium, that Bob Kraft owns the Gillette Razor Company?

    – I rest my case your honor. Behold your average Patriots-hater.

  23. See that’s why I like Bob he always gives you something to talk about, unlike Billy bell. How can you not love the man who gave us Mac n cheese. I wish they would just say we will win at any cost, because that’s obviously what most teams do.

  24. Funny how karma catches you when you hold yourself out to be something that you are not. Then when you continue the same behavior the karma really kicks in. Would love to see the sideways looks when Bob and Bill are meeting privately as they wonder if the other is actually buying into the act.

  25. B & B have gotten a lot of wins for New England over the past 10 years, but that is history and their best days are behind them. They will be remembered not only for winning but also for cheating. And sadly, they will also now be remembered for their big contract extension given to a serial killer on their roster. Another NFL “first” for the Patriots.

It’s bad here. RI is 30 min from Foxoboro and has had the state’s highest unemployment rate, as high as 13% – with a “true” estimate of 20% since unemployment only counts those who haven’t exhausted benefits.

That’s 1 in 5 out of work. That’s the entire region surrounding Foxboro.

Over the years all the construction and jobs, not just related to the Sunday games, but Patriots Place, other local businesses etc. has been one of the few bright economic spots here – all thanks to Bob Kraft’s vision.

  27. Patriots’ Way = High Football IQ on the field through the players they draft and sign. Smart situational football, with a hall of fame QB dictating the outcome of the game.

It’s a great system. Similar to The Raider Way under Jon Gruden.

  28. Cue the lame and decade old excuses to hate the patriots from unfortunate fans of other franchises. Dust off your material every now and then it could use it. At least the Patriots coaching staff doesn’t trip players from the opposing team during games. Ahem JETS

  29. I thought the Patriot way meant drafting horrible and covering up for those mistakes by buying low on troubled souls in free agency at a discount.

    NNNNNN

Enough of this crap. The Patriots cheated by filming.

The only difference in that era between the Patriots and the other teams, is they got caught.
It was well known that many of the other teams were doing it, but because they didn’t get caught their hands are lily white clean. BS!!!

It might be easier to list the teams that didn’t film-if you find any.

  33. What a joke – hypocrite, smug cheater. Get out of my face with this double standard back talking. The guy owes everything to Brady – without him he’s (and is) another scum bag owner.

You know you’ve struck a raw nerve with Pats fans when Ampats and Joesixpack are commenting several times just to stem the ‘onslaught’.

  41. I’m not saying they condone murder, but they have condoned poor civic behavior for a long time. From leading the league in PED and substance abuse for a long period. They’ve had 16 arrests in the past year for assault, drug possession, drug smuggling, distribution, indecent assault, domestic abuse, assault, DUI, murder/weapons/obstruction. This of course does not include Brady’s bodyguard shooting at people.

The Patriot way is one of lying, cheating, and criminal behavior. This is the culture bred in New England, much as Bill’s Buddy Urban had bred that culture in Florida…so let’s not re-write history.

    – Whether you live in your parent’s basement
    – Have you held a job in the last 2 years

  45. What a joke. The past few years, the Patriots have grabbed almost every troubled player that has hit the market, whether it be character or legal issues that plague them. I won’t even get into the fact that the Pats cheated in the past. The Patriots are the evil empire of pro football.

  46. ADK – Couldn’t have put it better myself, so I won’t even try.

    Don’t choke on the Kool-Aid…

    Google Spygate…Google Belichick…

Belichick had been warned not to cheat when he coached at Cleveland…He was warned numerous times after Kraft hired him…It wasn’t unil ’06, the league was compelled to stop Bellichick’s cheating…Even though Goodell destroyed the evidence and tried to sweep everything under a thick carpet, Belichick cheated the game and paid for it with unprecedented sanctions.

He earned the stigma as a cheater–it wan ‘t forced on him.

  52. What do the Patriots always say..

We don’t talk, we let our actions talk…

hmmm..Isn’t Dennard still on the team, you know..the guy that DUIs and punches cops?

  53. Looks like even Kraft has forgotten what the term “The Patriot Way” was all about. Again for all of you, it was a term that Tedy Bruschi started to describe the team’s one game at a time, keep you mouth shut, and win mentality. Never had anything to do with keeping your nose clean off the field.

For the spygate crybabies…it still feels great everyday when I see these comments and know that the Patriots have unleashed so much pain, frustration, and heartache upon you and your team over the past decade that you still…6 years later…feel compelled to troll (and cry) on Patriots PFT posts. Your tears taste like sweet fluffy cupcakes! Now, going to flip on NFL Network and watch some slow motion NFL Films shows of the Patriots success in all of its glory since they still play it every day. #dealwithit

  54. kraft just needs to stop talking to the media…jerry jones too…owners talking to the media rarley generates good press for their team…if they say anything decent or neutral, no one outside of their region hears it, if they sy anything remotely controversial it is all over sportsenter, etc…however, their egos won’t allow them to stay out of the spotlight…

  55. Thank god this is the team where Tim Tebow landed. I think he’s found a great fit and it will be a place where he will be loved and appreciated.

Typical irrational rationalization. You don’t even understand why your argument is a fallacy.

Everyone is doing it, cheating didn’t help us, and now..attacking an argument I didn’t make otherwise known as attacking the straw man. I didn’t say no other team has had an arrest. I contested the idea that the Patriot Way was not one of honor and civic responsibility and backed my claim with many examples of the team demonstrating, and tolerating, poor behavior.

Challenging me to name other teams without arrests is a way of attacking an argument I didn’t make and diverting the conversation. The Patriots, regardless of what others did or didn’t do, have a history of reprehensible behavior and the assaults, murders, drug trafficking, drug dealing, sexual misconduct, and attacks on police officers are more heinous than most others.

  58. Kraft can talk all he wants but he should lead by example.

    Here is an indisputable fact:
The Patriot Way is Kraft using foul language and making a complete fool of himself while helping his 50-years-younger than himself “pal” with her audition for an imaginary part in an imaginary Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson movie.

  59. “Good people like disgraced Cheater Bill Belichick, Alfonzo Dennard, Talib & Spikes.”

    +Julian Edelman (battery)
    +Bret Lockett (disorderly conduct)
    +Willie Andrews (assault)
+Nick Kaczur (criminal possession of painkillers)
    +Kevin Faulk (marijuana possession)

    +Albert Haynesworth (being overpaid)
    +Tom Brady (being a sissy)

  60. Apparently most NFL fans STILL don’t know the rules on filming signal calling.

Google “Jimmy Johnson and Spygate” and you will read how Johnson details how every team films signal calling. There is nothing illegal about that even today.

Camera placement we changed in 2006. The Patriots failed to heed that in the first game of 2007. AFTER they removed sideline cameras in that game they went 16-0 (best record ever, no “cheating”)

Regardless, how does the Patriots breaking a 2006 rule in 2007 invalidate Super Bowl wins from BEFORE the rule was changed?

But filming of signal calling still takes place today – hence coordinators STILL cover their mouths today.

But don’t let all of that get in the way of a good Patriots-hating rant folks. Those are only the undisputed facts.

  61. If the “The Patriot Way” means cheating, lying, primadona players & coaches AND Vladimir Putin lying, whining, sniveling, she-man owners then yeah I get it!

  62. I just love how everyone conveniently forgets that it was the Patriots who caught the Jets doing it to them first, in the 2006 playoffs. Did the Patriots whine and cry to the league? No. And I guess after broadcasting the ‘evidence’ on Fox sports to the whole country, not much else left to do.

  63. j0esixpack

Illegally filming the alignments and then using Ernie Adams to call in the play on a second frequency is huge. Learn what you’re talking about.

Seeing the alignment from the endzone gives a tremendous advantage when you’ve had time to study their plays, that’s why some guys look great in practice when they know their own team’s alignment/plays and not on Sunday.

The Patriots were warned many times and continued to cheat, they were successful in 2007 when they still had significant knowledge of other team’s plays and had acquired FA talent who came to them based on their “winning” reputation and talent through draft picks acquired by trading away players who looked more talented than they are by cheating.

Rationalize all you want, any reasonable person can see the truth. Digging your heels in doesn’t make you right; you sound like the Holocaust deniers, and in the end you don’t make the people you defend look better, you just make yourself look like a bad person who lacks integrity.

  64. “Not always successful”, boy is that an understatement.

I would say they are most often not successful, just to be more precise than the way he chooses to downplay his team’s failures.

  65. Cheaters…caught, they admitted it, & haven’t won a super bowl since. Once Brady retires so will the patriot way.
