Maclin carted off with injury

Receiver Jeremy Maclin’s contract year could be getting off to a not-so-good start.

Via multiple reports, Maclin suffered an injury during Eagles practice that has left him on the ground and, as Geoff Mosher of puts it, “writhing in pain.”  Maclin was carted off the field.

Per Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the situation “[d]oes not look good.”

While Maclin was down, both coach Chip Kelly and G.M. Howie Roseman walked over to check on Maclin.  He left practice with a towel over his head, after trying to put weight on his right leg.

Maclin, a first-round pick in 2009, recently said he expects to be more involved this year.  Much of that depends on the severity of his injury.

Great, so who is going to start at WR in Week 1? The two QBs that think for sure they are the guy would like to know.

Damn, that sucks. I always liked Maclin more than that loudmouth tool DeSean Jackson.

  12. enrifer says: Jul 27, 2013 1:58 PM

Sounds like he tore his Achilles.

  13. strokinmyego says: Jul 27, 2013 1:58 PM

Crabtree, Ingram, maybe Harvin, and Now Maclin. Training camp has just started and tons of guys are getting hurt. I know football is a violent game but these guys are going down in non-contact drills. This is why anybody doing a fantasy draft before August is a fool.

  14. deathonwings410 says: Jul 27, 2013 2:00 PM

    Hope it’s not serious

  15. jetsclaps says: Jul 27, 2013 2:01 PM

Not even close to being a fan of the Eagles but there’s nothing worse than training camp injuries when it comes to football.

  16. eagles83 says: Jul 27, 2013 2:03 PM

Might want to consider moving someone to WR, like Vick. It would be a better use of his talents.

  17. andymc58 says: Jul 27, 2013 2:03 PM

Who’s that receiver for the eagles that can’t stay healthy? Oh, sorry Maclin, I didn’t see your shirt.

  18. JMClarkent says: Jul 27, 2013 2:07 PM

    Terrell Owens is available.

It would be worth adding him just to make McNabb uncomfortable during his retirement ceremony.

  19. acmepackers says: Jul 27, 2013 2:07 PM

Too bad. Heck of a player. Iggles and Cowboys have the injury bug!

  20. pillowporkers says: Jul 27, 2013 2:07 PM

First Percy, now Maclin gets hurt. Every year we as fans look to a fresh start, but some things never change. Ryan Mathews will be next.

Let’s hope for the best, but based on initial descriptions, this does not look good. Such a shame, not that there is ever a good time to get hurt, but this is the worst possible scenario for a kid like him.

  25. reeggss says: Jul 27, 2013 2:20 PM

JMac is not even good let alone great, like the kid but he just can’t stay healthy. Injuries while unfortunate, must be part of the analysis of a players worth.

  26. blueballzny says: Jul 27, 2013 2:22 PM

I’m a Giant fan, but I hope its not a serious injury. There’s nothing worse than having one of your best players out for a long period of time, especially since training camps are just getting underway. There’s nothing worse! Here’s hoping he’s back soon.

I think the NFL needs to do a study and see if there are ways to prevent all of these early camp injuries. Maybe spend the first week doing only stretching and conditioning? Im not saying that stretching more could have prevented Maclins injury, but these injuries are brutal to a team.

  28. dirtybird28 says: Jul 27, 2013 2:25 PM

Not an Eagles fan but that sucks to see. He’s a good athlete and good dude. Hope it’s nothing serious and wish to a speedy recovery!

  29. umainebearman says: Jul 27, 2013 2:26 PM

I hate the Eagles bit the only player on that team I can say I like is Macklin. He’s THE most consistent player on that team. You know exactly what you are getting with him. He also isn’t a loud mouthed spoiled little brat like number 10. Speedy recovery to you sir. Hopefully when you get back your team will have a real qb under center.

  30. Hoover says: Jul 27, 2013 2:28 PM

They have Arrelious Benn and the 6’8″ kid out of Boston College who ran like a 4.3. They’ll be fine.

This is why anyone who drafts Maclin or Percy Harvin is a fool, not people who draft before August and make good calls to avoid injury plagued players. Seattle made a horrible decision giving a guy who has never completed a full season 25mil guaranteed. Seattle has no shot to overthrow the 49ers, this is our division Seattle Hipsters!

    Go Cawks!

  33. pigbenis69 says: Jul 27, 2013 2:34 PM

Was bound to happen sooner or later. Same goes for Vick. Some guys just can’t stay healthy.

  34. riverhorsey says: Jul 27, 2013 2:42 PM

Breaston would be a good pick up for the Eagles.

  36. wgray981 says: Jul 27, 2013 2:47 PM

Go Cowboys…but I still hate to see injuries. Really sucks for the team and the player to lose a valuable asset before week 1 even starts.

  37. phillysuxbigd says: Jul 27, 2013 2:48 PM

Jeremy “self-talkin” Maclin probably got hurt trying to avoid invisible defenders. Shoulda worked on his falling to the ground technique a little more this past offseason

  38. bison4me says: Jul 27, 2013 3:03 PM

As a Skins fan, I truly hate to see this. To tell you the truth, I hate all of the injuries that’s been happening throughout the NFC East. I like for the all the teams to be at full strength, it’s what makes us the NFC Beast. Get well soon Mac. HTTR

Looks like Chip is running his players too hard. Gonna have to start dipping into the practice squad before long.
