Bears defensive end Turk McBride suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon on Monday, multiple media outlets reported, including the Bears’ official website. Given the typical recovery time from an Achilles tear, McBride’s 2013 season could be in jeopardy.

McBride, 28, signed with the Bears in March and was expected to hold down a backup role behind starting defensive ends Corey Wooton and Julius Peppers. Shea McClellin, Cornelius Washington and Kyle Moore are among Chicago’s reserves at end.

Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (knee), Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta (hip), Broncos center Dan Koppen (knee), Chargers linebacker Jonas Mouton (knee) and Cowboys defensive end Tyrone Crawford (Achilles) are among the players to have suffered serious injuries in the opening stages of training camps. Now, McBride has suffered a major setback before the preseason games have even begun.
