Bruce Arians thinks it’s a make-or-break year for Ryan Williams

Cardinals running back Ryan Williams left Sunday’s practice early because of right knee trouble, something that’s all too familiar for a player who missed his entire rookie season in 2011 after he tore the patellar tendon in the same knee during the summer.

It appears he’s avoided another trip to the injured reserve, however. Coach Bruce Arians said Monday the MRI on Williams’ knee is clear of any sign of serious injury, although he didn’t say when he thought Williams would be able to get back on the practice field because the back will go for a second opinion. He did intimate that sooner would be better than later when he was asked if it was a make-or-break year for the runner.

“I would think so,” Arians said, via the Arizona Republic.

With the regime that drafted him out in Arizona and very little track record to date in the NFL, you won’t hear too many arguments to the contrary. Williams is going to have to make an impact for the Cardinals this season or he probably won’t get another chance to do it.
