The Eagles lost wide receiver Jeremy Maclin for the season over the weekend and they kicked off this week’s set of practices by watching another member of the team get carted off the field.

Several writers in attendance at Eagles practice sent out word that linebacker Jason Phillips needed to be helped off the field by trainers after suffering an injury to his right leg before being put on a cart for a trip back to the locker room. Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post snapped a picture of Phillips as he left the field to get medical attention and Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer adds that Phillips threw his helmet to the ground while shouting some “choice words” during the evaluation.

Phillips signed with the Eagles as a free agent after spending the last two years with the Panthers, for whom he played all 16 games and started twice last year. He started his career as a fifth-round pick of the Ravens in 2009 and played four games for Baltimore as a rookie.

He was slated to be a major part of the special teams units in 2013, but the results of tests on his leg may force the Eagles to look elsewhere for someone to fill that role.
