Manny Ramirez gets first crack at replacing Koppen

The Broncos need a new starting center after the torn ACL suffered by Dan Koppen.  The guy who’s getting the first crack at having Peyton Manning’s hands in his is Manny Ramirez.

According to the Denver Post, Ramirez worked with Manning at practice on Monday.  The seventh-year pro made 11 starts at right guard last year for the Broncos.

C.J. Davis worked as the backup center, giving snaps to Brock Osweiler.

Newcomer Steve Vallos, who passed his physical and joined the team, practiced at center during positional drills.

They are so desperate at center that they are trying to convert a retired baseball player to play center.

The title of the article is a little misleading…..who else thought wow, his baseball career went downhill REALLY fast…..

Don’t the Broncos have Zane Beadles, Chris Kuper and Louis Vasquez? None of them can play center?

  9. ndnut says: Jul 29, 2013 1:45 PM

But Manny plays right, not center!

“Hello Jeff, Peyton.” “Sure you wouldn’t like to play one more year?”

I bet Peyton has “MannyWood” over this…

(did ya see what I just did there? Oh nevermind…when does the season start?)

I once read about the Ravens’ Dennis Pitta sharing the same name with a professor at the University of Maryland, and how their mail was regularly criss-crossed with one another. I wonder if the Broncos’ Manny Ramirez has ever faced a similar problem.

First crack? Manny has been starting all offseason going back to OTAs. Koppen has been 2nd string.

According to several retired pro-bowlers, Manny will make a good to really good center. He has enough “nasty” and smarts to make the transition easily.

    I aint got no worries.

40 reps at the bench press – Manny knows physical strength.

    Broncos will be fine.
just need a “stop gap” guy until Walton comes back in week 6-7.
their schedule is pretty easy through the first 1/2 anyway.
This only means they might win the division with a 11-5 record instead of 13-3
They know their real season starts in december

I hate to see a human being hurt, but as a Colts fan I see this as good news.

Manning is horrible when facing heavy pressure up the middle and the Colts new DTs are going to have a FIELD day with the Broncos’ back up centers this season.

On the flip side, this can be a great excuse for Manning to use when Denver ultimately doesn’t win the Super Bowl this year.

    Go COLTS!!!

your gonna need more than “Luck” to beat the broncos once….let alone twice in a season

Just another person who clicked this hoping it was Manny Ramirez the baseball player.

  24. lakermetskins says: Jul 29, 2013 7:47 PM

Rest assured, Ramirez will be the first athlete barred in two sports.

Really? Maybe you should check out PFF’s QB Pressure Profiles for the last five seasons before spouting off some nonsense.

“Manning does well against interior pressure so the way to get to him is through the tackles. That’s his only real weakness as he grades positively against most other types of pressure…”
