Warmack deal done

Chance Warmack had the leverage to hold out for the removal of offset language from his contract.  But he decided that it was time to get to work.

Warmack, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, has agreed to terms with the Titans.  He’s the last 2013 draft pick to sign.

Per Schefter, Warmack blinked on the issue of offset language.  Thus, if he’s cut at any point in the next four years, the Titans will get a dollar-for-dollar offset based on anything he earns elsewhere.

Either way, Warmack will make $12.16 million over the next four years, with a $5 million check being cut at the time of signing.

    I’d take that deal too.

    I understand the team wanting the offset language in the contract, but why would a player object to it? He’s gonna get paid either way, right? Someone enlighten me please.

    Per Jim Wyatt at The Tennessean: “Warmack’s deal includes a 5th year team option. The total value is right at $12.17 million, with a $7.2 million signing bonus.”

    To the person asking why a player would be against offset language. If the player gets it he can use it as leverage at the end of the deal to get a new deal. It prevents the club from cutting a middle of the road player as a cap casualty. Not a big deal if you are a bust ir a superstar but for an average player its a huge bargaining chip

    Big news for a team that no one cares about

    Chances are that The New York Jets took a “pass” on Chance because of his age!

    LOL, have you ever seen Shonn Greene play in the last 2 seasons?

  19. rufustfireflyjr says: Jul 29, 2013 3:56 PM

    @r8rsfan: With no offset language, if a player who will get 5 million in guarranteed dollars from a team gets cut, he gets the 5 million PLUS whatever he can get from any new team he may sign with. With the offset language, he just gets the five million. That’s why the players were fighting this change in NFL contract language.

    This is a playoff team with solid QB play.

    @Vir Publius

    We’re talking about the Titans, not the 49ers.

  22. vikinganswer says: Jul 29, 2013 4:56 PM

    In that division, probably possible to vie for playoff. Vikings did it last year when I was expecting 6-10 to be reasonable year. Anything is possible. Of course they dont have AP or the defense we have. QB’s are comparable right now but hoping to have the governor taken off the passing game this year to throw down field more.
